While twiddling my thumbs waiting for the Mac version, I took a peek at steam charts. It looks like Humankind had a launch day peak of 55k players. For comparison Civ 6 had a launch day peak of 165k players.

The implication is that Humankind may have sold about a third of what Civ 6's had at launch.

That's actually incredibly good numbers imho. It also certainly far exceeds any of Amplitude's previous games. That's a really promising start.

Oh, that does sound indeed promising.
Not to forget that Humankind doesn't have a big name, and that there might be more publicity generated after launch in this case. Looking forward how it develops .

Selling a third of Civ VI would probably be amazing compared to other Amplitude games. Presumably they’ve spent a lot more money making this one, though.

That 55k concurrent number is ~3.5x their previous best though.

I'm not sure if I find 55k concurrent players more impressive or that sharing your persona got 33k people upload theirs (which requires an account on Amplitude's forums). And once you have this account, and know the forums, you might get a bit more involved reading, discussing, trying out what others do etc.
