Hyborem crash bug reports/search for cause of bug

Humm thats a good idea problem for me though is that I gave my XP comp to my mother (poor comp is now a glorified picture album with loops of my kids on 24/7, but it may *enjoy* a break... =) not only that but she makes a great baby sitter for gaming :mischief::D

*ok gotta go rest so that I can regulate the amount of rat feces a chinese restarant can have in their egg rolls* its fun being a health inspector...

Confirmed SP crash also Vista Also DX 10 -- no UAC.

The Appcrash lists civ version as 3.0.0.1 can anyone confirm that it should show that and not 3.13 or something like that?

Going to test save out on my xp machine and start a new one on vista with no hell terrain.

I don't even know how to run it in XP compatibility mode. Still, I really don't want to wreck it with DirectX 9, besides the vid card I have was made to work with DX 10 and I'm sure it will run earlier versions. Since yours is a slightly different model, I'm sure it will act the same way. Honestly I don't want to wreck it since I don't have the expertise to recover it if it completely wrecks. Yea I know quite a bit about computers, but not to that extent.

@calbrenar: it also crashes a couple turns later for me. I'll check the appcrash info in the problems and solutions and look at it on the event log.

lol on the health inspector thing. Where are ya anyway, New York?

No stress, its definitly a big switch so I dont expect everyone to leap off the pier.

From what I can tell you can install both directX 9 and 10 on your comptuer at the same time (http://www.techpowerup.com/?25528). And that DirectX 10 is known to have some problems with games made for DirectX 9.

I already run it in xp compatibility mode it won't run without it. Out of the 5 options I run the bottom 3 (I leave off 640 x480 and the 256 colors)

here's a crash as hyborem pangaea no special settings (again starting as tebryn)

Yea well, I'm not even sure its the DirectX that is causing problems because I've had those fires created by the dragon without issues and the fire effect around the demons causes no problems. I have no issues at all graphics wise.

Anyway, I checked the appcrash thing and it also says version 3.0.0.1 for me.

I'm pretty sure I didn't get a crash when I used no hell terrain, but I probably didn't test it enough. However I can definetly confirm that for me, if I remove all desert and floodplain tiles, I don't get a CTD.

ok last post for the night I promise..

For the XP compatibilty mode its easy and will not kill the comp.

1. Right click you FFA icon
2. Go to properties
3. Click the middle tab called compatibility
4. Choose box to "run this program in compatibilty mode for..
5. make sure windows XP is selected

OT: Health Inspector: Far from NY I am in Valdosta Georgia lets just say you REALLY dont want to know what goes on in those kitchens...

OT: well considering the chinese try to eat just about anything edible....

I'll try that xp compatibility thing tomorrow to see if it still crashes that way.

I already have it enabled and it doesn't affect anything. Installing the DX9 thing may have helped i'll post more in a bit when i can test it.

Ok. Kael came into #erebus on IRC and we did a bunch of tests tonight.

End result is we need some other people vista people who are having these CTD errors to install DX9.0C and start new games to test it.

You can just go into WorldBuilder and Spawn infernal. It should work with or without hell terrain enabled and playing as the spawning race or as Hyborem.

I was unable to get any of the preexisting crash saves I posted working even after installing 9C so sounds like your previous games are gone for good. If someone is able to successfully spawn Hyborem and continue the game without a CTD please try loading some of my saved CTD's and see if they are playable for you just so we can confirm that installing 9C fixes new games but not old saves.

Here's the link to 9.0C You must have a valid copy of Vista to download it from here. There are ways around it I won't post them here, not sure of the forum rules.

tldr (too long didn't read)

Install the link above to add dx9c to your install this should fix Hyborem related CTD's in new games (but not old saves)

I'll check that out after college class. Again, does anybody have the origional customfunctions file? I know I can just reinstall FfH, but still....

Customfunctions is in the patch, so you could just reapply patch "d" and get it back.

what is the FFA icon you are supposed to click?

I used the patch D to replace the custom functions, assuming it overwrites files. I know I could save the one I was using, but it's better to use the origional to be sure the whole thing works.

I just finished installing that DX 9 thing and will see in a couple min whether it fixes this or not.

Edit: still crashing with burning sands, looks like maybe the directX 9 is having no effect, unless the directx 10 is ovveriding this. If I remove desert and floodplain, I don't crash, so I'm not sure what exactly is going on here. I tried your pangaea save Calbrenar and it still crashed.

What if it's something that is only activating with Vista and not with XP? we really need to get a modder who works with vista to help us figure this out because it looks like none of the FfH team members use vista.

I don't think anyone sane plays games on Vista.

*d&r*

Seriously though, Vista is known to cause problems with loads of games (along with being slow as molasses), and there's a possibility there's nothing the FFH folks can do about it. Calbrenar or someone mentioned having to use XP compatibility to even get BTS to run, so I'd guess Civ itself doesn't have much love for Vista.

james this fixed the problem with it crashing for me and I use vista 64 which should be considerably more ugly then vista 32.

Are you using compatibility mode?

Also did you start a new game when you tested it or did you reload a save?

As far as vista playing games Yao I have 8GB of ram and I'm playing Crysis at 1920x1080 on an HD projector at 50fps. Try that with XP :)
