Hybrid mode

Hello,
I recently watched some lets play videos of online, and I'd like to try it sometime.
However - in those videos I watched the setting "simultaneous" was used, which seems like a unfair clicking orgy - this may even give the host a huge advantage (depending if CiV has dedicated servers or not).

So - is hybrid played online at all, or would I have to join a pitboss game to find patient players?
And another question about how hybrid works when some players are not at war - are they still doing their turns simultaneously or is everybody forced to "hot-seat" mode (this might make the need for patience quite high ^^)?

Regards
Yu

I belive the hybrid mode is simu turns at peace and the slow kind at war. I think it's mostly friend groups that play hybrid. Dont think NQ or civplayers does it at all.

Games already typically go 6+ hours. Hybrid turns can double that, so that is why they are not used. Yes Simu turns is not perfect, but it's the only way to finish a game online with random players.

I have some information regarding my question, if players not at war would still play simultaneously - the tooltip does indeed sugest, that only players currently at war are forced to "hot-seat" mode. But we all know how "precise" the tooltips often are (not very)...

Hybrid mode is absolutely horrible because it can make games take 2 or 3 times longer than normal. Waiting for other people to take their slow turns while at war is bad enough without having them take their turns separately.

It's just not a good option due to the massive time sink it causes.

There are things you can do to not get out clicked such as turning down your graphics. It is usually inexperienced players who attribute their losses to click fests. The fact that some one gets first move is irrelevant when they have 3 times your army. Although there are some people who can get 2 or 3 moves off before you get one. Those people are definitely no fun to play with and are exploiting the game mechanics.

I really wish that whoever got first move would trade off each turn instead being just who has the fastest computer/internet so this was not even an issue.

I often get out clicked but over come click disadvantages with superior numbers. If they are as good as you and getting first move consistently, you are just kind of screwed.

I find it hard to believe people play with people who don't play like this. Rushing every move in a desperate attempt to get double moves sounds like the opposite of fun.

Everyone plays like this. It is usually not too lopsided and people are not trying to get double moves. They are trying to attack a damaged unit and kill it before it can run away.

Often it's the case that you get some quick clicks in and the other guy does too. But, there are some people who just get them all and it's a really unfair advantage.

Team games can often come down to whoever gets the first moves because their units always escape and never die and the other person's units never get to heal and always die before they can hit the heal button.

Although this is an extreme situation. Usually first move is not so one sided and usually games are not so close that first move is the determining factor.

Simul turns is not as bad as it seems, and it introduces a new element to warfare even because there are more tricks. If you never tried multiplayer before i would go with simul turns and try it a few times.
