I captured an enemy Capital. Now what?

I haven't figured out the purpose of the "Germany Lost Its Capital!" message. When a capital is lost, a new city becomes the Capital. What is the point of the first message? I seem to be missing something.

A civ only has one 'true' capital. The Domination victory is won by beng the only civ to still have your capital.

To win a domination victory you need to to be the last civilization holding its initial capital city. so the message is lettting you know which ones have been lost

it lets you know that another civ is kicking (potential runaway ai target) and another civ is being kicked (potential dog pile target)

I see, thanks. So if I take out the captials of my rivals, I don't actually need to conquer 70% of the world?

For example, the Mongols could take 6 AI capitals leaving only original capitals of myself and the Mongols. I blitz the Mongol capital and I win domination without having to capture the 6 AI capitals controlled by Mongolia?

What is the purpose of auto re-establishing a new capital when an original is lost? In my game, Hamburg is the new German capital. What's the point?

Wouldn't it be better if a civilization collapsed when the capital is lost and the remaining cities became City-States or new Civilizations? I loved that about the original series.

I think the new cities get the bonus from the Palace building so that's the point of relocated teh capital.

And yes, it would be a million times more awesome if there was stability and losing a capital could be something to tip that over the edge. The problem with that is that players will know to simply beeline the capital and win the war.

Why? I mean, the civ lost it's capital. Why should it continue to get bonuses from the palace building in a new city?

I suppose since so many civ-wide policy bonuses are dependant on the Capital (ie roads connecting to form trade routes) a civ would be hopelessly crushed without its capital.

This. A human player already knows to defend his capital. An AI? Bah. They try and sometimes I think they can but since the victory is immediate, it's hard for them to.

For some reason capitals are now the corner piece to domination victory. To win domination you must capture every opponent's capital.

If there is only one capital left then the game is probably a done deal anyways

The domination victory is to be the only one who still possesses their original capital, that is the one with the palace and the one you founded first at the beginning of the game. It doesn't matter whether you own the other capitals or someone else does, e.g. 6 Player game and some civ takes everyone's capital except yours, and you take theirs, you win the domination victory even though you have only taken one capital. The notification is there to tell you that so and so has lost theirs, so that's one less towards the victory.

You need to capture another one. And another one. If you click "OK" every time you capture a capital you will go back to the main menu screen and the game is over (ie won).
