I get to the loading screen and then...

It gets to the loading screen, where it says loading in all different languages. Then that disappears, and all i get is that

Sid Meier's Civilization 4 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Any ideas why this happens? Using a P4 2Ghz 512 RAM Geforce2, and it fits all the other minimum requirements on the back of the box

Similar thing here. Just get to the splash screen, never see the step-by-step loading that other people here refer to. Goes on for a while (several minutes), with some CD and hard drive activity. Then the system reboots.

Please post your specs, also keep in mind that meeting minimum specs doesnt mean much. People with more than the recommended requirements are having this and many other issues, also check out the Fix-It list, hit backspace and scroll up, hard to miss.

checked fix-it list, but nothing about this issue, also searched forum a bit...found some threads about this problem, but no solution

I have done some "fixes" like updating my graphic card drivers, or the one with Unpak, but no change, pls help....

I got home from work, the game had worked perfectly before and I hadn't done anything to it yet, I tried to run the game it gets to the step by step loading, gets to
'Loading XML' and then cuts out, I tried the nomovies=1 to if that might help, and nothing. This game is becoming a hassle.

EDIT: OK! So I was thinking, what's the 1 difference, that was the 1 thing that was there when I was playing the game, and not there when I got home. Answer? My Webcam, so I hooked it up and it loaded, worked and everything, I have ABSOLUTLY NO idea why the game will not work when my webcam isn't hooked up, maybe someone else can explain that, but yeah...weird.

this is not the problem we are describing here, it looks like a problem with XML, pls see here http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=132992 or try this

if game stops at xml error, xml parser error, or something something similar, download ms xml parser v3.0 sp5.

I had this problem too - but I found that changing my desktop resolution to 1024x780 solved it. After 3 hours of shennanigans!
