I got fired, what's next?

Shoot yourself. Your people and everyone will benefit from one less unemployed person. Also, world population is already growing too fast.

Naa, I won't make kids, but I can't shoot myself when my mother is still alive.
Wars will happen with or without me.

Well, you could shoot your mother first. :)
Anyways, I wish you good luck finding a great new job. :)

 You (still) work at BMC ?!
Not any more. As I expected, we were made redundant today. I've been there quite a while so they've given me 6 weeks notice, which I don't have to work. A pretty tidy redundancy settlement too.

What product/job are you doing?!
Job title was Senior Product Developer. I worked on SQL-X for Oracle, SmartDBA and Patrol.

Perhaps you came to our Tel-Aviv branch sometime and I even saw you???
No. We were working with a team in Austin Texas. I never got to visit them, let alone go to Tel-Aviv. I've seen you though, that picture in your sig ;).

My ex-wife worked for Bindview Development, a similar company to BMC in Houston, and she just got laid off too......sounds like the software business isn't too hot right now.....in Houston anyways! ;)
It's a lot better than last time BMC were doing the redundancy thing, lots more jobs around now. I escaped last time, I was one of 4 kept on in an office of 22. Last time I was thinking I would have preferred to be made redundant, and I guess I got my wish this time. It forces me to get off my butt and move on.

Hi boogaboo.

Sad news indeed, man. But I'm sure with your experience (4.5 years) you soon will find something descent. You still have lishkat-avoda money, so you wont starve for some months  Anyway, don't let this depress you, ihje beseder.

@leha - glad to see you online! I will be ok financially for about a year before becoming a homeless person ;)

@Dianthus - It seems we were both had a bit of wishful thinking about this wave of redundency.. :mischief:
Why 6 weeks..? I got 3 months of pay-without-work..

Oh.. Patrol was.. murdered.
I guess that's the real reason for which you were fired.

I think it varies from country to country. In this country (England) the 3 months thing applies if >= 100 people are made redundant. BMC is actually a different company in each country, so I worked for BMC Ltd. < 100 were made redundant from BMC Ltd.

Hi boogaboo

An exciting place to be ... a new start ...

List your passions and then your skills and see if there are any interesting matches ... then add the minimum wage that you can live comfortably into the equation ...

This may result in somesort of a computer cat project :p ... but seriously think laterally ... arts ... social/community work ... education ...

And maybe do some voluntary work in the interim

My thoughts ... as I had them when I faced a similar situation ... now I am a pyrotechnician

Top Warcraft 3 players in Korea make $250,000 US a year...However, usually games are shortlived, as were as a shortlived career in esports.

Oh and don't be a hobo like rmsharpe, Mr. "Minneapolis" ;)

I'll thank you not to flame my fellow anti-commies and CIV2-modders, Mr H!

You could always program a few utilities, set up a website and sell them. (There's always bound to be newbies on the Net...)

If you have a bunch of money saved up, go travelling! Asia is cheap to live in, loads of israelis around if you get homesick and it's a lot more fun than working. If you want to work though, going abroad is always fun (if you're allowed to work abroad that is...). Why not go to india and see if you can get your old job back.;)

Hey Boogaboo ... in what direction are your thoughts moving?
In the direction of games and education..

@funxus - I don't think moving to India for work purposes will make anthing better.. and I'm more of an Amsterdam guy for fun.
I love India, but don't think I want to get used to the conditions, especially the food and pills for some diseases.

laid off, not fired.
didn't check the dictionary.. Is there ANY difference between the 2?
