Why crazy? It stops people from killing pets, and he doesn't want to kill the cat, just scare it away.

I recommend catching the cat and locking it up for a week feeding it only water.
Then set it free.

Or If thats to much hassel simply submerge it to ummmm.... abuse by complete submergance under water for several seconds. repeat a few time and set it free.

I knew most people have sadistic tendencies, but I didn't know you share..

Anyway, I'm sadistic in mind, but never in action!
I feel very bad even for the stick thingy, but if it solved the problem (so it seems) it was worth it.

If he does come back sometime, I'll water him.

And.. I see from many responces that you still don't get the situation..
He ONLY comes if I'm not there or asleep.
If he sees me (even on the street now), he runs away immediately.
1 second response time - no vacum cleaner / hose (no I don't have such a yard) / etc..
