Ahh, 'I.T.' -I had the opportunity to jump on the bandwagon back in the late 90s, when everyone else was persuing the 'career of the future', everyone was going online, a computer in every home. I didn't do so, because fortunately I'd been using computers for practically my entire life (I'm 28), and therefore already knew this was a field that, while fun to dabble/participate in, I'd go crazy if I actually did it for a living.
Now, everyone and his brother is in the industry, so, it ain't exactly that it used to be, opportunity-wise. Like, back in the early & mid-80s, there was a programmer at my dad's company (an accounting firm), who was a skilled, in-high-demand guy due to his skill set. The company spoiled him - send him on trips to Hawaii all the time, paid him exceedingly well, etc. -He had 'the life'.
-THAT, was the time to be in I.T. My dad himself was a systems analyst / network guru, going back to the early 70s (started in the military, working on the internet in it's infancy). Now, he can't even find a decent job.
Anyway, it's a commodity now. Ask yourself, "do I really want to sit in front of a screen my entire life, punching keys, and trying to get the damned software to do what it's supposed to?"
It ain't what it used to be... find another gold rush. -That's my point of view. Especially in this day and age, when when the job can be send overseas, should they offer a lower bid (which they likely will).
But, everyone uses computers nowadays, thus... they just persue what's right in front of them.
