Hi all, im a new member and i have some questions i´d like to know

1 - I know that if you set all your cities to granaries, the chance you pop up a free settler from a goody village increase a lot, then if you set them all to temples what you get? and if set to libraries? to markeplaces? is the granaries trick not right? then why does it works for me most of time? Should i pop huts with units or city building?

2 - Does harbor´s and liking lux resources in that zone that built the harbor decreases corruption in that particular city? i think it tend to decrease a bit...

3 - Whats the deal with Hanging Gardens? is it worth it? kinda easy to build and long-term duration (till steam power)and one citizen made content in every city on the continent plus 3 on the city that builts it loos very kool, kinda like a Mausoleu of Massoulos + 1 lux connected to all cities instantaniously. This wonder really puzzles my head with some potentialls for it....what could they be?

4 - What is better? Monarchy or Republic? Republic seems to be too expensive if im an warmonger? or isnt it because of the +1 commerce in all tiles? Monarchy seem to hang on good for me till Democracy or even Communism/Fascism or im i totaly wrong?

5 - Whats the easy way to get an SGL? start with alphabet civ and sling to Phil or is there a better way?

6 - The fortress´s and barricades have th "zone of control" stuff that states an enemy unit passing will suffer damage, then why doesnt this happens, i think i´ve only witnessed this one time...is it bugged? what im doing wrong? how it works?

Many thks, i know its a lot of questions, but i think they arent bad ones...

If any of your cities is set to settler (or you have a settler on the map), then you cannot pop a settler. Other than that, it makes no difference what your cities are set to.

If you pop huts with city building, then you cannot get a settler, and you cannot get barbarians. If you are expansionist, then you may want to use units since you can't get barbarians anyway. On most levels, the chances of getting barbarians is far greater than the chance of getting a settler, so I usually pop with city building.

2 - Does harbor´s and liking lux resources in that zone that built the harbor decreases corruption in that particular city? i think it tend to decrease a bit...

When a city is connected to your capital via either a harbor or a road, then corruption decreases in that city. Luxuries are not relevant unless they put the city into We Love the King Day (population at least 6, no unhappy citizens, at least as many happy as content (or is it more happy than content )).

The Hanging Gardens is not bad, but like most wonders, it is usually better to let the AI build it and then capture it. I've never found a use for the Mausoleum other than if you are trying for a 20K victory.

4 - What is better? Monarchy or Republic? Republic seems to be too expensive if im an warmonger? or isnt it because of the +1 commerce in all tiles? Monarchy seem to hang on good for me till Democracy or even Communism/Fascism or im i totaly wrong?

You can find hundreds of threads on this site that discuss that. The general consensus among experienced players is that Republic is better in most situations. Whichever of Republic or Monarchy you choose, you are generally better off staying in that one the entire game and not switching again unless you are religious.

5 - Whats the easy way to get an SGL? start with alphabet civ and sling to Phil or is there a better way?

To get an SGL you must be the first to discover a tech. Scientific civs have a better chance than non-scientific civs. If you start with a monopoly on Alphabet, then you are often guaranteed to be the first to Writing, Philosophy, and a free tech giving you 3 chances. On the other hand, if you want a very early SGL, it can be good to start with no religious civs and research Ceremonial Burial (the cheapest tech) first. Really, you just need to be lucky more than anything else.

6 - The fortress´s and barricades have th "zone of control" stuff that states an enemy unit passing will suffer damage, then why doesnt this happens, i think i´ve only witnessed this one time...is it bugged? what im doing wrong? how it works?

I never use fortresses/barricades, so I'm not an expert, but I think you must have a unit in the fortress/barricade to get the ZoC. You are probably not doing anything wrong - it just isn't a very high probability.

Many thks, i know its a lot of questions, but i think they arent bad ones...

Good questions :).

Welcome in the forum.

The hanging gardens effect is actually worse than 1 lux, because it wont be increased by markets. It also needs monarchy, and since republic is almost always better, monarchy is basically a useless (and expensive) tech.
Frankly, settlers, workers and military are much more important in ancient age than wonders, but if you really want to build early wonder, try the statue of Zeus.

First time I hear about that. If it is true, it is a major discover.

It is as many happy as content.[party]
