After years of playing CivII where I basically ignored catapaults and artillery - I've now realised that these are ESSENTIAL to waging efficient war in CIVIII.
I just got attacked by the German military machine (I'm the Babs on Monarch) - In one turn they sent in about 25-30 units - mostly cavalry to have a go at me. They captured a lot of my workers before I could hit back.
I was in one those 'quiet' periods of the game - you know where everything is going well, all you cities are virtually fully improved. You're discovering a new tech every 4-6 turns, and half your cities are producing 'wealth' rather than units. Then bang - back to war (I'd previously wiped out the Eqyptians). It's about 1800AD.
I'm well ahead on tech - I've got tanks and artillery.
My artillery has just destroyed the German strike force - beat them down to one red bar, send in the tanks to clean them up with no risk at all.
It's going to be fun mounting a counter offensive!
I've just started pumping out Bombers - again in CivII I never used them, but I can see that they are going to be vital here!
