Well, I have a lull in my work shedule in the coming weeks, and I just finished what I was reading..and can't think of a new book. A lot of you guys are interested in some of the same things I am, so maybe you could suggest something?

I am NOT interested in:
Sci Fi
Fantasy
War History books

I DO enjoy:
Non-Fiction (Political Books, some Philosophy, although I don't have a huge depth of knowledge in the field, so nothing TOO deep, current event stuff...that sort of thing

Lighter Fiction
Biograhies
sports stuff
Anything else thats *really* good

I'm thinking about getting Bill Simmon's book "Now I can die in peace", which is about the Red Sox winning the WS. Did anybody read it? Did they like it?
ideas! GO!

if your intrested in light fiction then maybe ismahel and maybe something some what science fictional would be 1984 by george orwell thats my favorite book ever

Siddharta Siddharta Siddharta

or you could browse the literature section of your local bookstore :)

Now I Can Die in Peace is a compilation of Bill's columns from the late 1990s through the Red Sox World Series victory. So, if you...

A) Like Bill Simmons' columns
B) Like the Red Sox, or
C) At least are not nauseated by the Red Sox...

...then you will most likely enjoy the book. I enjoyed it, so there's that.

Another sports-related book you may enjoy is Moneyball by Michael Lewis. Excellent if you like baseball.

Another poster mentioned The Kite Runner, which falls under the category of *really good*, but I have to warn you that it is not exactly "light fiction," and it is a bit on the depressing side. But it is outstanding, nonetheless.

All these ideas suck. Consult with me in fiftychat.

Collapse aswell as Power, Faith, and Fantasy are both very good books IMHO.

Yeah, I read Siddharta my senior year in high school. I dont think its really worth re-reading. I *could* just amble around my library, but it always help to have some direction.

Oh, its just a collection of collumns? I love Simmons, (and being from Ohio, I dont really have any special feelings one way or the other in the Sox/Yankees deal), but I dont think I'll spend any money on it if it isnt new material. I have an ESPN insiders suscription, so I've read a lot of his older stuff.

Moneyball, seems like something I'd love. I'll have to check it out.

Common Sense Economics: What everyone should know about Wealth and Prosperity by James Gwartney, Dwight Lee, and Richard L. Stroup (St. Martin's Press)

Be sure to tell me the following:
  1. The ten key elements of economics.
  2. Seven Major Sources of Economic Progress.
  3. Economic Progress and the Role of Government.
  4. Twelve Key Elements of Practical Personal Finance.

Please keep the details neat and organized and make sure to get it to me by August 19th, 2007.

Thanks. :)

But seriously, I don't know what you should read.

Inside the Jihad sounds interesting (Yankee's suggestion).

Journey among the believers by VS naipaul is an interesting book, hes an Indian who strangely enough is from trinidad and goes to iran, pakistan, malaysia, and indonesia. He describes what its like in those countries. Its long and comprehensive but really interesting.
