I need a music list.

If you want to hear something "different" download a few random Death In June songs. Some sound like folk music, some sound industrial, and some sound like what Satan would sound like if he was a song...

Death In June? Maybe he should start out with NON first-- maybe a bit more congenial to those not used to such music. I like NON better anyway.

I try to steer clear of any folk artists who have played "industrial" music. Which is to say that I try to steer clear of industrial.

NON is more congenial? Okay, some of it is nice and fluffy, but then there's songs like Total War...

I can't believe someone else here has even heard of either of those bands :wow:

May I suggest:
Quicksilver messenger sevice "Self titled album".
GreatfulDead anything before 1975.
Crosby, Stills, and Nash. All albums are great works.
That is all I can think of, that have'nt been listed already.

As long as you download:

-One Night in Bangkok by Murray Head
-Sunglasses at Night by Corey Hart
-Love is a Battlefield by Pat Benetar
-Dance with the Devil by Immortal Technique
-Slob on my Knob by Three-Six Mafia

The rest are just supplemental. These should be your core song selections for the rest of your life.

They're not old, but 69 Love songs (3 cds) by the magnetic fields are quite astounding.

A band that I highly recommend is Neutral Milk Hotel. I don't really know how to describe it but I guess it sounds like psychedelic folk rock.

Here are some other good bands:

Archers of Loaf, Bright Eyes, Broken Social Scene, Built to Spill, Death Cab for Cutie, De Facto, Decaparecidos, Dispatch, Don Caballero, Galactic, Jonah Matranga, Mars Volta, Medeski Martin & Wood, Modest Mouse, Mogwai, Phish, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, String Cheese Incident, The Arcade Fire, The Flaming Lips, The Sea and Cake, Weezer, Wilco, and Yo la Tengo.

If you want to download any of this send me a message, I have about 6500 songs on my computer. My soulseek user name is two headed boy.

Mars Volta's new CD is coming out soon! :goodjob: They rule. Cedric and Omar are some of the best concept album artists I know of.

EDIT: And, since I'm here, I'm interested in what your thoughts on Radiohead and its progression are. Personnally, I really like their new direction. 'Myxomatosis' and 'I am Citizen Insane' are two of my favourites, ATM. I still enjoy The Bends/OKC, but I really think those albums are average. Pablo Honey is average alternative/rock at best. I would guess from other listed bands you feel the same way...

Omar and Cedric are amazing. Frances the Mute has only 5 songs, the last one 30 minutes long. I like it but not as much I like De-Loused, which is one of my favorite cds.

EDIT: First off, Kid A is my favorite Radiohead cd and I never really liked Pablo Honey. I like they way Radiohead progressed with Hail to the Thief, I think it is a good mix of RH's Bends era rock with the group's more spacey outings ala Kid A.

Yes, I think of the new CD as having 'pieces' and 'movements', if you know what I mean. I do like ATDI as well, though MV is way better. Sparta sucks. What's you favourite on DitC? I would pick the last two (I know, I know, I shouldn't go picking two tracks :))

My favorite song on De-Loused right now is the last one but almost all of them have been my favorite at one time. ATDI used to be one of my favorite bands, Napolean Solo and Invalid Litter Dept are amazing songs. I don't really like Sparta but I do like Glasshouse Tarot.
