I need your input concerning my civ iv purchase

I have heard many impressions about the single player mode. I want to know about the multiplayer. Has anyone played a full game? How long do it take? Are there actually people on gamespy?

Also, is the game more exciting than before? After a few games of civ iii, I found the micromanaging to be boring. Does the game bog down during the space race?

What does the "steal plans" spy action actually do? Steal tech? Are spies any good like they were in civ ii?

I am a bit wary about buying civ iv. Civ II was my favorite PC game ever and Civ III is the most disappointing game I have ever bought (along with Zelda: Wind Waker). Both games were just more of the same.

Thanks.

I definitely think that the MP is good. Very easy to connect and plenty of players online.

They certainly eliminated some of the most micromanaged aspects of the game.

That being said, there is no guarantee that you will enjoy the game. Do you know anyone who has the game or who will be getting it? The only way to find out if you enjoy it is to play it and I can understand regretting a $50 game purchase.

Thanks for your response. I'll probably get it. I was just worried that no one would play multiplayer on gamespy, like in Rise of Nations.

to enjoy MP, u'll want a buddy you know to play with. Games cn be done in under 2 hours on the fast setting and I imagine that can be fun if you can get enough (strangers) to play for 2 hours. I'm enjoying MP playing with friends. we play normal speed on tiny maps with about 5 AI. Small maps= faster gameplay. Takes a few sittings for me and a friend to complete (2 hour sittings) on normal speed, tiny map, 5 players. (3AI)
