I want a shooting game!

Sounds like Serious Sam is exactly what you want. It is awesome. Hordes of dudes come at you and you shoot them. And I do mean hordes of dudes.

Painkiller is a slightly newer version of pretty much the same thing except with more of a gothic horror theme happening. Also there is a gun that fires wooden stakes that you can nail dudes to the wall with. It is also awesome.

They're by far the most fun shooting games of the last decade, will easily run on an older computer, and have exactly nothing to do with wwii

EDIT: Painkiller: Black Edition is $5 on Steam right now. You should get it (ignore the sequels though).

Yes. Painkiller is a masterpiece of mindless slaughter. The leveldesign is beautiful, the action is fastpaced and both the enemy and weapon design are creative. And ignore the sequels, they are horrible.

Sorry I was banned for a week but yeah any shooting games that increase my heartbeat.
I played again Stalker and Half Life and these increase my heart rate when I get scared

Is DOOM3 scary?

Gamespot gave Soldat 9.8/10

but it's not really scary. Perhaps the zombies are, though.

how about paintball? find some friends, go to a paintball place, relieve stress by covering you enemies in goo.

Resident Evil 4
Dead Space

both are 'over the shoulder' 3rd person shooters, but they are still definitely shooters.

Dead Space is basically Resident Evil 4/5 in space, with aliens instead of zombies.
nevertheless, it is freakin awesome.. but you might have to upgrade, not sure about PC version.

Resident Evil 4 is definitely out on the PC, and it's an absolute must. one of the best games of the decade.
the shooting gallery is wicked too.. =)
also, the original came out on Gamecube, so your PC should run it fine.
