Anyone here have the new IBM HD? (or Hitachi if you prefer) The opinion on the net seems to be split between the people who will never, ever, trust IBM again and those who think it was just a one-off problem and that the newer drives are no more unreliable than any other make.
I'm inclined towards the latter view, but I'd be interested to hear your experiences/thoughts on the matter.

For all that I have read I have sworn off on IBM drives for the forseeable future. The guy in the cube next to me is having problems with his deskstar. I will buy either Maxtor or the WD Special Edition drive next. 80Gig type.

I always used Seagate and WD for HD. Always. They two have only brought me quiet sleep and peace :) Never feared loosing data. After more than a year working day and night, those HD are still good. And since they're 5400rpm (I chose not to buy 7200 since they heated a lot) they're even more reliable. No bad sector, nothing, absolutely wonderful.
My friend bought a 120GXP IBM 100gig... 2 months after, he heard the HD make a sound almost like a car engine... Ahem.
