Ideas to put into Civilization 4: Beyond the Sword

I can see that you want more of most everything. I can relate to that. More units, more wonders, more corps, more religions, more random events, more resorces, etc.

Much of this has already been done in the mod I play. I suggest you read up on it.

Maybe if you learn how to add units and change maps you could make your own modern scenarion from this or another mod.

I share your interest in adding a confederation as a government civic, maglev upgrade to the transportation system, and an airdefense network as a national wonder. I also kind of like the idea of using a great spy to assasinate a leader. So maybe you could kill Boudica and Brennus could take over for her after a few turns of anarchy. This would cause a war if you weren't already in one.

You've put a lot of thought into this already. Keep thinking and refining those ideas, with an eye towards, realism, balance , and gameplay . Then there's the matter of implementation. Maybe some of your ideas are better implemented as random events, or additional abillities of existing units or great people.

Just because many of your ideas probably won't make it into CIV V, doesn't mean that you can't find a home for them somewhere here, or make one of your own in time.

Good. I just want to make a addition maybe a mod pack or something to add to CIV 4 BTS. Great suggestion I will check it out.

I thought about listing all the bad ideas in your post, but I'd rather spend my time elsewhere.

Whatever. Please leave if you have nothing productive to say.

of cause paratroopers is worse against stronger troopers ...

name one unit (short of UU's) thats able to beat something which usually is able to beat up something getting around later on :P

The Airship, Missile cruiser and attack submarine will stay. Thank for make it a more productive decision.
You entirely missed the point behind my last post.

Let me say again. Can anyone help me with mods please. If I can't make the mods I will help make them. Can you help me add this to CIV 4: BTS? Please Respond!
This is not an easy thing to do. All of the units you want to add will mean graphic modeling/texturing for each unit if you want them to have a distinct look. Which means you need to find a graphic artist with free time (I am tempted to say that is impossible) or become one yourself. Which means you will want to learn how to use Blender, the 3DSmax plug-in, and GIMP to make it "easy" on yourself. If you already know this then your are good to go. If you don't and/or don't have any previous experience with 3D graphics learning these programs itself will be a huge project.

There are some things on your list that dip into source code. Meaning you need C++ knowledge or someone with programming experience + free time. Which is even harder to find than an artist here and there willing to make a unit for you. If you have no previous C++ knowledge this will mean you will have to learn a whole new language so to speak. Again not an easy task.
Learning to write in C++ and learning good graphics techniques with the programs listed above can easily take upwards of 1 year to learn how to do yourself. This depends of course on your free time and your commitment. That means as little as 1 year will pass with you not have adding anything to the game at all but you just learning how its done in the deeper aspects.

Then you have xml and python. IMO XML can be roughly learned in a day to a week. Python between a few days and a month. This of course is just the basics of it. (How to edit not create.) These two are good places to start if you have no modding experience whatsoever, but be aware that moving beyond them has a huge difficulty curve if you have no prior experience. These two can alter values of things already in the game and can dabble a bit into introducing new things. I do not know their specific limitations though.

This is probably why no one has responded yet to your asking for help on modding. As this is just a vague overview of it. Most of this will be you deciding what you are going to commit to. Finding people that have already commited to C++ or graphics that are good and have free time is beyond rare. As the reason they know it is because they have their own ambitions and are following through. XML'ers and Python'ers are a bit more common place but need a C++ guy at the helm designing the project with direction like a composer.

This is just to give you an idea of what you are really looking at. The 'project list' in the OP is not at all organized enough to even begin work on the mod. As there is no actual gameplay references to any of it. Just that you want it in. And willy-nilly quotes like the one at the top of this post are a sure fire way to irritate your graphic arts team and any programmers you have. As everytime someone comes in and says "this idea is good/bad" you will be tossing out work put in or throwing something back in etc. Which means alot of backtracking which nobody likes to do.

This is simply me pointing at a couple things and in a few directions.

Paratroopers will stay. So don't worry. There will also be a new unit Special Forces. Does that solve your problem?

i don't have any problem with anything (at least not in this context)

the one that seems to have a problem with anything is you with Paratrooper

Id suggest taking look on the Mods forum. Some of these ideas have already been included as mods.

Re paratroopers losing to tanks thats accurate as the Allies found out with Operation Market Garden. Paratroopers are a niche unit, not a substitute for infantry. The only problem I have with them is their drop range which could do with being higher.

Thank you for your support and ideas.

Do you realise how many trees you'd have to chop down, just to print the flaming manual?

Ahhh... they don't cut down trees for the manuals. It is only on your disc. The manual you get is the basics.

Anyone else wondering how old OP might be? :)

I read his profile.

I always consider that I might be interacting with younger people, and those who are less adept with the language . CFC is worldwide and family friendly.

A younger person might very well take up a programming language or learn computer graphics, considering the potential use they could get from it.

I would like the option to scale the number of relgions in a game Ie 7 on a smaal map is far to many.

I posted this in another thread but this ones getting more attention

so

A few things I would like to see

1. Political prisoners. When an city has great people attached to it and it is conquered or burned the great people are captured instead of still being attached to the city and events can take place based on the type of government you have and options for what the player wants to do.

For example if you capture an enemy Great general you could execute him publicly and give X happiness to your cities for X turns or force him to give you the enemy troop positions and their current map (chance he may be lying) or attach him to one of your own cities but the city will gain +1 >=(

or a great scientist for example could be hired away to your side or you could torture him to gain information towards a technology that your enemy owns.C

Captured Great spies could be
Public Execution for =) per X turns
Hired(pay gold) as a double agent. (becomes more like a spy unit) This unit can detect all enemy spies from his former country within 3 spaces. However there is a small chance that he may betray you and return to his country (3% each turn)
Tortured for X chance to reveal information (may be lying)

Captured Great Engineers can be attached to cities but give no benefits other than Hammers

Captured Great Prophets will be determined by enemies religion and your own religion. If its a shared religion he could either be attached to one of your own cities or be used to instantly end anarchy in any captured enemy cities below 13 pop.

If its an rival prophet he could be Publicly executed for between all shared religious nations and =( between all religions that shared the prophets religion or forced to say propaganda to lower your enemies automated religion spreading.(may cause unhappiness in democracy/free religion)

Captured Great merchants can be attached or in latter game and Free market can be used to attempt Hostile takeovers (lowers corporate takeovers, replacing competing corporation costs by 10% for the rest of the game) Or can be used to broker open Trade (open border trade only no unit movement except CEO's and great merchants) agreements after a nasty war.

2. A stock market in the game would be very fun and help make resources feel a lot more important.

3. Large amount of unhappiness and or huge cultural dominance from another country should lead to armed insurgencies and rebellions(when it gets really bad a few cities may try to break off and form their own country)
