well, if they landed tomorrow in broad daylight and on CNN and they told us they were going to kill us all would the world join together? would some peoples try to appease the invaders? what would happen?

i know it's been romanticized in movies but let's face it, the human condition can't be captured on film.

Chances are the aliens are just visiting and are not invading. If they're so smart as to be able to build interstellar-space-faring starships then they wouldn't be attacking us for resources. The UN will probably establish contacts with them, there'll be trade and everyone will be happy.

If they're stupid enough to announce their intentions on international television instead of just nuking us from orbit, then they're probably not going to be a terribly great threat.

Besides - why would they destroy us? Any resources on Earth could be more easily gathered elsewhere without traveling for several light-years to get them. Unless they're some sort of religious nuts (A la the Covenant) I don't understand why they would even be interested in us for anything but observation.
