Many, if not most of you, hate guns. So suppose you had a choice - if you could snap your fingers and have all the guns in the world disappear, would you do it?

And no, you can't say "well, the police and military could keep them."

Oh what the heck, you can say that. Would you do it then?

How about stuff like tanks and artillery and jetfighters and A-Bombs?

Could people produce new ones? Or still use other weapons? Then it would be pretty pointless...

No, no one could manufacture them. Other weapons(knives, swords, frying pans) are going to still be there, though.

Come on, I said God-like powers! You can't get rid of everything! All those goodies would remain.

Good question.

But suppose you could destroy all weapons? Is there even a point to that? There will always be fists and Jean Claude Van Damme roundhouse kicks, after all.

All you would be eliminating is the means to an end, not the desire for that end. Your efforts would hinder, but not eradicate, man's desire to kill each other.

But would it even be desirable to hinder it, if it truly would?

It's like the old quote:

"God may have created man, but Sam Colt made him equal."

Obviously, you've never had a frying pan thrown at you.

Do bows and crossbows still exist though? Since someone has to say it eventually, we should keep guns to defend against all those alien invaders...

Or the 300 pound gorilla that wants to beat the tar out of you...

The only reason I voted yes is because right now I'm being held at gunpoint and the gun's owner is telling me to type my last words. So, bye guys...

*A shot rings out*
*Syterion slumps in his chair, never to type another word again*

Yes, I would, without any doubt.
Although, it does take away the guns from police too, or not?

Would it matter to you?

Crime would still be as bad as it is now, if not worse. For war means, we'd ("we" being humans) simply use bloodier and less conventional methods to get the job done.

Its amazingly short sighted to take away guns whilst leaving other weapons that can kill people just as easily. Now getting rid of nukes is perhaps something that would make a lot more sense as with guns there should be enough time for some sort of peace to be agreed before the last human is killed whilst with nukes we can happily kill each other nice and quickly.

Yes, since the police is supposed to protect every one, now from people with bats and frying pans.
If I had godlike powers, I wouldn't take away all the guns for fun, but to help people, so if I should take away all guns, police become less efficient, thus my effort to help people by taking away guns is not helping, thus I shouldn't do it.
Sounds logical to me

No, some people use guns to legitimatly hunt animals for food and such. And sometimes they are need for defense in say the case of an officer. The simple fact is weapons don't kill people, a loaded gun, atomic bomb, bow and arrow, other conventional weapons, won't do harm anyone until you put a human who has a desire to kill in the mix. It would be better if we got rid of the desire to harm one another.
