If you were an architect...which building...

I suppose Photoshop would be a superior way of accomplishing that:
Hagia_Sophia_no_minarets.jpg

A nice little foretaste of what we'll see when the Marble Emperor awakens.

This makes me sad. :(

I've always wonder how architeture would have looked if instead of Europe, China conquered the world and Chinese design became the mainstream art form for 'modernisation'. There are two buildings in Singapore which I think gives me a look into how Modern Chinese architeture would have turned out.
These are the buildings I will design.

Western architecture have surprisingly enough not existed in a total vacuum. Art noveau was strongly inspired by Japanese art. Flowing lines and so on.

It doesn't exactly look Japanese, but still...

Not really a fan of the style, but it's interesting.

Why?

Well, because the building (and the rest of the city), even though it was initially built by the 'Greek' Romans in a 'Greek' Roman style a long time ago, it has been Turkish for at least 450 years now.

Every Turk (probably) looks at it as part of their own culture and history. The Ottoman style of building is probably derived from it (Blue Mosque Suleiyman Mosque etc). Even though, this building and Istanbul has undoubtedly been Turkish for so long, there exists so many Greek nationalists/sympathisers who just can't really seem to accept that. So much to the point it's like the building and the entire city ceased to exist past the year 1453, you know using photoshop to erase the minarets and the crescent. The drawing was still fine, it represents a pre-Ottoman era at least, but that's a modern day photo!

Just move on already various Greek nationalists and sympathisers.

Very beach house like, but it looks great. Although it has no front deck but I guess that is what the beach is for :goodjob:

It has, though, a third floor which isn't.

This is a CavLancer idea. The typical big house in the tropics has the living room, kitchen, etc. on the bottom floor. Above that. the bedrooms. Then above that, a metal roof. The tropical sun shines on the metal roof and turns the attic into an oven; the attic then heats up the entire house, and air conditioning has to be run all day long to keep the house cool.

CavLancer's idea was to raise the attic up on posts one level. This keeps the heat away from the house and keeps the house in shade all day long. Even though I am less than 10 degrees from the equator, I have no air conditioning in my house and no need of any. The use of shade and cross ventilation of sea breezes keeps me cool. (Thanx, CavLancer.)

Something as phallic and imposing as possible

Make it more reflecty (for maximum viewing pleasure) and add a rotating restaurant on top...boom.

And put a fountain in the center of the restaurant to complete the imagery.

I like the design of (formerly) Shell House in Cape Town.

I also like the Shinjuku Mitsui Building in Tokyo.

Btw the unfinished athenian temple of the Olympian Zeus, whose remains are to be found even today, is another very impressive creation.

Even with only a few pillars standing, when i was there i felt elated by the temple. I kept imagining its size if it had been completed. The golden ratio is said to be used in many ancient Greek buildings, like the Parthenon, and here as well. Who knows what the ancients knew of architecture, back when it was the epitomy of art, and not something merely to be passively seen as the hideous modern buildings existent today.

I went there and was really bored. Definitely not the best ruins I've ever seen. Maybe I just don't really have an appreciation for archeology :dunno:

I like modernist architecture, but I'm pretty bad at drawing it. So I'm going to go for Sacré-Cœur.

SacreCoeur7.jpg

Or maybe la Sagrada Família.

Both of which inspired me to draw this a couple of years back.

And you say you're bad at drawing? I'm stuck at three-year-old levels compared to that.

Also, Sacre Coeur de Montmatre is my favourite Parisian building :)

I said I'm bad at drawing modernist buildings :p

I used to like medieval architectures, so I have a lot more experience drawing that kind of stuff.
