Hi all!

After a long hiatus, I'm back, and looking for something fun to do while I'm taking time off from writing my next book. So, would anybody be interested in a prince level MGE succession game? I'm thinking English or Viking as the civ...

Best regards to all,

Robert Marks

My last few succession/PBEM games seem to have petered out...So I guess I'm available. Shall we wait a fe days into the new year & see if other takers join in? How many turns do you want to play at the start?

I'd like to recommend no restarts (in case a conquest is desired) otherwise I'm easy with the other details but would like to see the specs that we're using.

Can I play! Im Up for it as long as its not in july 30, 31, june 1,2
Please i realy want to play

I am in unless you have hung up the "turtles need not apply" sign.

I am ok with any rules. MGE is the hostile ai, so we are talking bloodbath here, right?

My current game, I have made three successive peace treaties with the Americans and "Honest Abe" has broken every one. And I am not even playing the Souix!

I'm still here -- best bet might be to describe the start & go. Maybe the first few players should play 20 turns each.

I'm OK with either Classic or MGE.

I would prefer MGE simply because I will not have to download anything! If not, someone mught kindly point me to the correct patch.

I think we have enough players. I've heard no dissent regarding MGE. Garwulf wanted Prince level, but that post was long ago. Do we still want to go with that? Any self imposed restrictions? Any preferences regarding land mass or world size?

If there is no conversation then I'll make some choices & start us off in a day or two; if we do have some other thoughts, I'll wait for a consensus.

So we have:

If it's possible, I'd like to sign up for this nice little succession game. I personally like playing at the Prince level. If you think I'd be too many, stick me in as a backup or alternate, just incase someone no shows.

I think we should look at banning the 'usual' things, like bribing cities, the airfield cheat and FCT. I would also favor a Xinning ban. Having read up on it (but never done it), it is a powerful strategy and at prince, where one warrior can keep order in a size 5 city, a little too easy to do. (Though the thought of one guy with a spear pushing a bunch of Einsteins around is pretty funny: "Work, nerds! Work!")

20 turns per player to start is ok with me. But before we start, I think we should hear from Garwulf, whose baby this game is.

O'n'S, good turn order. You can 'clean up' after me. We will not be needing a mole with me on the job!

FCT=Food caravan trick, which helps build "super cities" by having a city set up food caravan routes to itself.

Xinning is when you turn all the citizens of a size 5 city (minimum size for non-elvis specialists) into scientists or tax collectors. This produces significantly more science/money than citizens do by working the land. The trick works because if you have even one sheaf in your food box, no one will starve. Thus a large food deficit does not matter and you effectively swap one food for all that science/money. The next turn, the city need produce just one extra food and then go all specialists again. Even every other turn this way the process is a big mathematical winner over standard play.

OK by me.

My thinking is that we can go ahead & start, with a caveat that if a couple of days go by then we'll slot a pass for that player & move on to the next.

So maybe .:KNAS:. can go ahead & pick the world size, civ choice & start (tomorrow?) ;)

Sure, i could do that. But i'd like to know what prefered difficulty level people have, and what type of world? Also, should i post the save here, or open another thread?

Okay, i started it:
New Game, Large Map, Restless Barbarians (randomized), Alexander of Greece, Emperor level, all else is standard.
Starting techs: Alphabet, Bronze Working, Ceremonial Burial and Horseback Riding.

I lost track of turns, but i reckon it was circa 15-20.
Okay, i the beginnig i scouted around with the two settlers for 4 or 5 turns trying to see if i could get for specials, i couldnt. One of the shielded grasslands might be a special thou. A few turns after i founded Athens, i got an Advanced Tribe, Sparta. The other settler is NONE, so i figured he'll walk around and road the place up, maybe irrigate a little too. I researched Code of Laws and now i am currently researchin Monarchy. Next time, ill be a little more accurate in how many turns i do and writing about them. :)

EDIT: after looking at the picture, i realize that i should have explored more to the north/north west before setteling...

Emperor, huh? hope we don't scare too many people off.

Yeah, you might be right about the placement of Athens -- for all we know we might have had a whale or two N or NW.

I think that the None Settler might either road to Sparta or move South & settle a third city.

How about 20 turns each for the first round?

FranciscoHernan is next.

Well, im a King player, but i thought most of y'all were deity players, so i figured Emperor was a nice compromise, and besides no one answered what level they wanted...
Well, if you all want to restart on a lower level, its fine by me

A fine start, with 2 cities and NONE Settler. Sparta may have a whale/fish in one of the sea tiles off the coast. It looks like we are on an isthmus. Unless it conects to a bigger land mass, this could be an early sea travel intensive game, which IMHO is the most challenging style of game. It makes the sea going research thread important, which spreads out the research even as the need to ship units overseas speads out our forces. A challenge, a tasty little challenge.:goodjob:
