I'm back for one game at least

Y'all make me wish I still had a computer that would run C3C! Glad to see some SGs still going down here, though.
The GOG-version of C3C works on Windows 7, 8, and 10. Just sayin'... ;)

(Yeah, OK, and so does the Steam-version)

Welcome Aabraxan, nice to see one of the old-timers back here.

I bought my version on Steam for $5. I'm not terribly fond of Steam, but it meets a need. ;)

Hi Aabraxan, I had to stop using my disk as well. It is the Securom support being dropped by Windows. Now I use Steam, like most others. It has been claimed that some version of the cd's do not have Securom and they work, don't know about that.

While finishing up the last turn:

I have not been razing+replacing Iro towns in Africa, partly because I prefer not to do this, but mostly because the turn before our Settler-stack arrived in Europe (via Greenland), Izzy's troops clogged up the Suez while trying to get through to Shaka + Lizz (I assume: they're at war), and she hasn't cleared it yet. Although she would probably cave to a "Leave or Declare!", I didn't want to risk the ultimatum (or offer an RoP) while we're still depending on her Ivory (and have so many towns ungarrisoned), so I blocked her GoTo instead: her troops have started retreating south, and they should have cleared your path by next turn.

First off, if you don't want to raze cities, you don't have to, but I did raze quite a few, including those you may have taken. We can't eliminate the flip risk without risking even more troops for garrison and they at least until recently were almost all needed in the front lines. Things have changed a bit, but stealing a line from the movie Patton "I don't like to pay for the same real estate twice."

Although I thought I'd disconnected his Oil, Hiawatha still seems to have Tanks to spare: and due to the Spanish obstruction, I have not been able to prevent him from recapturing some of his towns (albeit briefly, since our forces are still vastly superior). Using pillaging and Arty-bombing, I have just (this turn) got to the point of being able to force his incoming off-road. But we should not destroy any roads that we will need to get to our next targets!

I believe this has now been...addressed.

Per instructions, most of our newly built troops have been going to Europe and points east/south. But we have also pushed a little further north through the German islands: I destroyed Heidelberg-in-Taiwan (Brennus is about to re-Settle it -- on the Wheat-Grass  ), and captured Munich-in-Okinawa garrisoned it for 1T, but then moved on). On the German mainland, Hamburg has just fallen, and there are a couple of Settler-/troop-carriers inbound. I was thinking to found on the Hill ENE of Hamburg (SW of Berlin), where the injured Maces are standing. Then (if wished), we can burn down Berlin to expose another Wheat-Grassland  and found our next town on the Hill to the NNW.

You should be in a position to eliminate Bismarck during your set, unless like Shaka he has a galley floating around out there. He's down to 3 locations and with a few marines we can finish that war.

Regarding the F-15s (especially those on the Carriers): to ensure that we have effective air-cover, I marked some F-15s 'Interceptor' so that I could remember which ones I'd put on Air Supremacy-missions: this is important, because this mission apparently takes 2T to activate (@Kirejara tested this last year). Those marked 'Support' can then be freely used for bombing/recon, without accidentally deactivating our CAPs.

That's a good idea, and I did not know about the 2-turn requirement, or if I did I'd forgotten it. I did not touch the interceptors. Here is as good a place as any to review the locations of our naval task forces.

Of our towns building aircraft, some have been given a Rally Point in Europe. I discovered some time back that this causes newly built planes to get moved during the interturn (essentially auto-rebasing), allowing them to be put on combat-missions immediately during the following turn. The Tirana-airbase is out of range of western North Africa, though, so you may wish to reset the Rally Points (back) to Rome (or even Spain) to allow the remaining Iroquois holdings to be attacked. Since I left the Battle-animations turned off, I don't know if I managed to burn the Iro Bomber fleet yet.

The Spice-town in Java has been founded on the Hill for defensibility, so we need a Worker to road (and clear and irrigate) the Spice-tile and then a Harbour. The town will grow in 7T, at which point we can rush the Worker-build-in-progress -- or we can Airlift some out to Rabaul, and Transport them from there. (Our S.Am. farms are as developed as they need to be, and our trans-Continental Polar Express is complete, so I piled spare Workers up near Washington, so I knew where they were if I needed them).

I didn't touch the rally points, the Iro bombers are gone, and I botched the Polar Express no less than 3 times.
Nothing for me to do with Spice Town. That remains a work in progress.

WW (from the Zulus, but probably now also from the Iroquois) is still interfering with our farming. I mean, it's still just about manageable, but while they're only breeding Clowns, all those farms are not really helping us (a Settler every 30T is not the primary purpose of farming!).

Well here, I trust we won't come to blows. ;)

I decided to re-mobilize after looking at the numbers. The cost of a market is 100 shields and is what a mobile ADA costs (which is why I assume we were building them), and almost what an MA costs. It’s too expensive given that what we need are units more than science and disbanding doesn’t return 100% of the cost. The Iroquois are #2 in science but have lost almost every productive city they have and may be close to 50-turn research. The Celts are #3 but are only about ¾ through the Industrial Era. That leaves the Mongols who are #2 and are in the Modern Age but at this moment have no techs for this era. For those reasons, there shouldn’t be an issue with a slow tech pace, even a 20% one.

For the South American science farms, the ideal city size with 75%-ish war-weariness and no market is around 7 where it has railed grasslands. For those we can get 3 scientists with one non-productive clown. At size 7 we get more unit support. For smaller places with railed grasslands or other, we can get a couple scientists. Places size 8 and above are not productive. They are only able to run single scientist at best. The solution there is to keep them cranking settlers to keep their population in check. I went ahead and cancelled almost all the mobile ADA builds in South America that may well have made sense earlier when WW was lower, but now they just don’t fit in. There weren’t many, I switched a couple builds to settlers and swallowed the shield loss and rush-bought one mobile ADA that was reasonably close so that it can now switch to settler. Europe is largely the same in terms of WW so the same strategy should follow. Run these places to pop 7 and leave them on minimum to no growth and settler builds. Those that can’t because they have plains tiles can make workers or wealth. Northeast Africa with the floodplains can do the same. A fair amount of the continent though will probably be smaller though as plains and desert are more prevalent. Eventually the number of new cities we add with 3 scientists will help ease the pain even if the corruption factor eats into some of those gains. Bottom line, yes the purpose of the farms are for science, but if we're out for the world, we need settlers just as much. Another quote, this time from Apollo 13. "I'm not interested in what the thing was designed to do. I'm interested in what it can do.

More to come...

IBT Aztecs declare war on the Vikings.

Iros sent a pair of bombers at us.

Mongols settle Taiwan.

Maya burned Oslowe to the ground.

1455AD (1)

The African Campaign continues.

MA liberates Gandasetaigon for 27g. Tyendenaga for 41g. Kahnawake for 27g. Lose 1 MA in taking Onnontare and 41g. Ganogeh that has his oil for 28.

New Allegheny for 29g. Same for New Grand River. Alesund for 45g. Lose an MA and Owego for 45g. Skannayutenate for 45g. Gewauga for 46g and two aluminum nearby. That makes 11 cities captured this turn. He’s down to 24 cities at this point where our MA are just about used up.

El Alamein and Bir Hacheim founded. Also Kursk.

R&R Copan and Chichen Itza. Now Leningrad and Moscow. Move Chernobyl over 1 to make it fit better.

Chondote taken and 46g. We almost lost Hlobane Cav Army with a single HP left.

IBT

Maya wardecs Vikes

Lose St. Regis to Iro tank and an arty stack we’ll get back.

Sumeria wardecs Celts

Zulu wardec Maya

Maya captures Sumer and Izmit. Need more troops!

Computers>Miniaturization.

Make peace with Zulu

Cairo flips

1460AD (2)

Attack and burn Cairo to the ground. 39g

Same to St. Regis

Take Akwesasne with MA armies for 30g. Odense for 20. New Tonawanda same.

Oxford taken from Aztecs. No gold.

Raze Mayan capital Bonompac. Get MGL in the process

Re-take Sumer and get MGL. Re-take Izmit and burned.

Another MA army attack. Tikal incinerated.

Palenque and Tlaxcala abandoned. Found Voronezh, Saratov and Stalingrad.

Marines take Berlin! City razed and replaced as our Pacific Fleet now sits in Tokyo Bay.

I messed up the previous turn and hadn’t replaced two transports on one of the transit points, so no deliveries to Europe.

IBT

We get two Iro flips. Lose a couple units at Mauch Chunk and several at Gewauga.

1465AD (3)

Burn Mauch Chunk, burn Gewauga, burn Malinalco. Burn Iro capital Kente.

Onto Iroquois East Africa.

Capture New Niagara Falls, Gayagaahe, New Salamanca, Kewauka, and Oka.

The final push. 3 MA armies take Oiogouen, 2 individual MA take Neodakheat after an arty shower. 2MA take Kiohero.

Get two MGLs taking Leipzig in the Pacific with a marine and an MA kills and English something. With the army it joins two other armies that bring down Aztec capital Cempoala. Only one hostile city in Africa remains but am out of 4MP units to take it down.

I set up a worker blockade line to temporarily keep the Spanish from moving any settlers into any remaining African spaces.

Re-mobilize per above, albeit briefly per below.

IBT-

Zulu and Spain sign peace treaty.

Mongol-Mayan Trade Embargo ends.

Sumer captured by English cav

1470AD (4) Goigouen Iro capital burns using 2 MA armies for 54g. Africa now ours minus Spanish of course.

Phase 1 of the South American resettlement program begins. Since their citizens are happier in smaller locations, they will be shipped off to Africa in order to establish new settlements. These will replace the Iroquois establishments. 12 settlers arrive in Africa.

Chondote, Akwesasne, Tyendenaga, Onnontare, Gandasetaigon, Skannayutenate abandoned.

Edfu, Khartoum, Addis Ababa, Juba, N’Djamena, Bangui, Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Lusaka, Bafoussam, Enugu founded. We have our own ivory now. That makes Spain rather superfluous. 5 turns remain on that deal. After that I think we know what happens. Mongol peace treaty ends in 1 and RoP in 11. Just thought I’d mention it.

With the African Campaign complete as it relates to current adversaries, other foes can now be dealt with. English capital of Coventry taken. MGL Lee at Canterbury. New army. And get Sherman too, bonus points! Calixt-whatever captured by MA. Another Aztec capital. The easily traversed terrain of our current adversaries is just about gone. From here on out, it’s islands and lots of tundra.

We are at 63% world population but only 30% of the world area if you can believe it.

USS Bainbridge kills Mayan frigate assisted by DDs Deyo and Elliot.

IBT

Babs declare on Zulu. Maybe he’ll have better luck. Kawauka flipped.

1475AD (5)

Get MGL Jackson at Yaxchilan. We take that. Kaminaljuyu falls to MA army. Lazapa same. Kawauka re-taken. Marines storm into Lagartero following attacks by aircraft from carriers Lexington, Independence and Yorktown. Fire support from BBs New Jersey and Iowa not effective. Eulbar, Bab capital taken, then Mayan Calakmul. Aztec Chiconautla is taken out by a pair of MA. Have to go through the Mongols and throw 6 armies to take out their infantry at Agade.

Marines take Frankfurt. Eliminate Mayan Cozumel in Greenland, clearing that landmass. Lose an MA and a cav though vs rifles.

I end the war with Sumeria and give them ToG since they won’t make peace straight up. They’re the easiest to come back to later and no flip risk in the meantime. We’re now back to normalcy where we’ll remain until miniaturization due in 8. Detroit: Army>Palace prebuild for the Internet that is also set to complete in 8. That will cost us a couple hundred wasted shields, but worth it. We can’t get it faster anywhere else and we’re up to 31 armies.

962 gold in the bank @+43gpt and done.

We have just about run out of land to conquer with our current set of enemies. You can take out yet another Bab capital, Uruk and Mayan city of Quigera or whatever it is. After that there are islands north of Norway and Sweden that will need marines.

We can wardec Spain in 4 or if we feel more conservative we can focus on the ones we’re at war with. That would mean a lot of armies sitting idle though. I’m building more marines now in anticipation of having to clear out a lot of islands along the way. We have 124 modern armor. If we get the count up to say 150, we should be good to go the rest of the way. With 31 armies and more MGLs in the future, we should have 35+ by the time we’re done with conquering Africa, even without the benefit of Detroit’s army builds.

The Iroquois are a shell of their former selves, completely cleared from the mainland. They have 3 ice towns in NA, 3 small places in Australia, Crete in the Med, an island off India and two islands in the South Atlantic, one of which I presume is St. Helena. I’d look to clearing out the 3 ice towns now as the easiest pickings. Crete just needs a transport and a marine or two. Arty can redline any defenders easily. A couple transports full of marines should be able to take Australia although 1 of those is inland and the island off India. Another transport full of marines for the South Atlantic islands.

The Germans we can take out quick. They’re all yours. Three to go.

The Vikes are almost done. Two towns and at war with the Mongols who are close by.

Maya, Babylon, Aztecs. 18,14,11 cities left respectively. It’s just going to be a grind with them, working our way through Siberia.

England 4 cities with 3 of these in Siberia. The 4th in Madagascar that we may as well look to clean out soon after Africa is ours. They continue to send a stray unit or two at us.

Sumeria and Zulu each showing 1.

Now for the remaining competition.

Spain. Way behind in tech and no reason not to start on them after the deals expire as we have our own ivory. They’ll lose Africa in 3-4 turns after we start I would think.

Mongols. They have the potential to do us some harm with marines and air. We might want to keep 3rd Fleet around Guam after Germany is finished off, unless we want them to escort the transports dealing with the Iroquois. Based in Japan they will be a bit more vulnerable although we do have quite a few fighters now. Our MA armies fully healthy should get through India ok, as their cities are close together. Southeast Asia will take slightly longer.

Celts. Maybe save them for last, although we could take them on before the Mongols as they are farther behind in tech. We would start at Samara and take Risor, then head east. That is the fastest approach towards China. You can tell me what you think there.

I'm very sorry, but I'm not going to be able to play further in this.

My mother died suddenly yesterday, and quite apart from the grief, sorting out her affairs is going to take up most of my time for the next couple of weeks at least.
