I'm banned from Civ IV

Self imposed punishment that is. I'm pretty sure I spent a solid 6-8 a day during the week and probably 15 hours each day on the weekend. I'm sure the hours would be less if I wasn't crashing to the desktop . Anyway, now that my eyes are red and twitching and I'm pretty sure I have CTS, I've banned myself from Civ IV.

I like how the game has a timer, but what I need is one of those convenience store safes that has a time lock on it. I need a 2 hour limit and then the disk should drop into the safe and I'm not allowed to open in for 22 hours.

Anyone else go overboard with this game yet?

Nah, I even played some GTA Vice City just last night in place of CIV IV. I've lost like 5 games in a row, lol, so I needed something I could pound for awhile. ;)

Nothing close to what you describe, but the game sure goes vampire on you if you let it. I definitely make use of the in-game alarm as much as possible to remind me to take a break, at least. Fortunately, I don't have a lot of time during the week to play (maybe an hour or two a day), so I don't have to worry about going too far overboard.

Man, my head/neck/eyes start to ache a bit, though.

I remember when I was playing Civ3 I played so much that after a while I lost nearly all sense in my right hand. I'm glad I went to spain for 2 weeks after that without a computer, because I definitely would've kept RSI if I continued playing.

It probably wouldn't be impossible to write a program to do just that. Maybe you should try contacting a bunch of programmers somewhere and see if you can interest them in doing it. There'd probably be quite a bit of demand for a program like that!

Or as say you are doing, you could just impose some self-discipline... ... it would be cheaper...

I have only used the alarm feature once and I'm never using it again. lol I set for like 2 hours or something then I forgot about it as got into the game then when it rang I nearly fell out of my chair the damn thing scared the **** outa me so I wont be using that feature again lol cause I know the next time Im gonna forget about it again and the same thing will happen.

Hmm... I could probably write a program that would "hide" the main Civ4 executable for a specified period of time. Maybe that might work.

Wait. That won't work. I'm not gonna stop playing Civ4 long enough to write something like that.

Guess we better find someone to program this thing who isn't already playing the game. :)

Try this:
Civ 4 Released Last Week - Bar Exams this week...
Needless to say I will be rewriting my Bar.

The problem with self discipline is that you have the most of it when you least need it (ie when you have not played long) , and the least when you need it most (when you're tired and weak from playing too much).

I dont have a job, I dont/can't work due to disabilities, so I game all day long... I spend 12-16 hrs a day plugging away at these games, everyday.

Get a girlfriend, she'll make sure you don't play all that time!

My wife invented a term for it back during the Civ II days:

Civ Coma.

I honestly believe I could survive without food, water, and sleep for many many days as long as I was playing Civ. Oxygen may even be optional.

Well, consider yourself lucky. Game playing gives me the munchies, and I've got the spare tyre to prove it :p

Civilization IV is addictive enough to me that I allowed my World of Warcraft account lapse. All that scheduled raiding was cutting into my Civ time!
