I'm stuck in a rut

I don't think there is any cure for this problem except setting the built in alarm - "okay, I'm not allowed to stop playing this one game until this alarm goes off"

usually if i just play a game long enough i can stick with it, its just getting past the boring ancient times that i have trouble with..

You find the ancient times boring? I think ancient -> renaissance is the most fun with the late game being the boring repetitive part. I find myself starting new games just to try new things and stopping most games just prior to the industrial age.

I can definitely relate to most of what's written in this thread. There have been times when I've had to give the game a rest. I think it's because Civilization is so addictive. Sometimes I enjoy thinking about the game more than playing it. I also need for the experience to maintain a certain level of difficulty (overcome by some degree of success) in order to be worthwhile. The point where my expectations meet reallity, is the "sweet spot." And who wouldn't chase after that?

I think my personal problem with Civ is that I read these boards too much. Everything makes me want to play a new game! :(
