Zelenka Erik said:A "human" is not only a person who belongs to Homo Sapiens, for that is an anti - scientific opinion that negates the "humanity" of all other species of the Hominid family. This proves the futility of the opinions of House Klorin and makes their propaganda easily understood, for in the end, what is a "pure and untainted human"? They make claims of artificial genetic change being against our common ancestors, but they fail to realise that nature itself causes genetic change over each generation of Homo Sapiens through various biological processes. Therefore, is nature something evil as well?
However, a "human" is not only someone from the planet Earth that belongs to the hominid family. This is the opposite of what the "good" people over at the Solar Federation are supporting. However, in order for someone to understand this he must delve into the deepest of philosophical questionings and be open - minded. A human, biologically speaking, is no different from any animal of planet Earth. They are made more or less from the same materials and have a common origin. Thus, humans are animals. However, there is one distinctive feature that further characterises a human being: his higher cognitive functions, who are mainly a result of the ratio of brain and body mass and also of the size of the prefrontal cortex.
Upon being willing to see what a human truly is, one has to question himself further when taking into account what age we live: are aliens considered "human" too? In my own humble opinion, yes they are if they share the same or perhaps higher cognitive characteristics with a human from planet Earth. Why should a sentient and intelligent being from another celestial body be regarded as "inhumane", when it is as "human" as we are? For this reason, I say that while involuntarily research is as of today still a necessity, let us help any alien society reach our level of development without infringing on their rights as sentient beings. If they are of an equal technological and scientific level as us, then let us regard them as equal in everything. And finally, if they are more advanced than us then let us give them the respect they deserve without necessarily dooming our species when our rights as humans are attacked.
One could say that because aliens will most likely not have the same biological and chemical methods that we do, that they are not a subject of evolution and thus do not have a characteristic of the Homo Sapiens species, and that is our animalistic origins. While the hypothesis that aliens are so different from us that they propably use different biological systems in order to live is scientifically correct, it does not negate the result, that there might be aliens who are as sentient if not more sentient than a human being from our original planet. Someone else, starting from the same scientific sentience, could arrive at the result that alien life could be way more different than anything we can imagine. However, use caution at all time, for difference in the method, while still important and a part of scientific research, does not necessarilly equate a difference in the result.
Our goal as a society shouldn't be to enforce flawed ideas such as "purity". Our goal is to pass on the torch of scientific knowledge unto other human civilizations indiscriminately, for there is no greater happiness than that of helping others. We have given a Second Opportunity, let us not waste that by causing the extinction of our species and as a result, of our collective knowledge in all sectors that we have acquired over thousand of years of existence as a species.
