Welcome to the official UN thread of IOV, where our golden rule is,"It's only as powerful as you want it to be." Any dimplomatic actions that happen in this thread are not official unless you post it in Imperium Offtopicium thread. Someone could post on this thread about how you're a pig, insult your god, and blockade you, but it would be as though none of that happened on the main thread and you would not have casus belli against them. The council demand that you stop your war against the heavens? Screw them, you don't have to listen to them. And the game would be none-the-different. Now, you may be wondering to yourself, "If no diplomatic actions posted in this thread are official, what is the point of this thread?" Well...
  • To help keep IOV from being overrun with spam.
  • To provide a place where world leaders can discuss important events and try to work out deals before they are posted in the main thread.
  • To allow a place for Off-Topic discussions

The same "housekeeping" rules aply here as they do in IOV, except I'm going to be ALOT looser with the "No Off-Topic" rule. ;) Some "hot-topics" for you to discuss would be...
  • Should the "Historical Accuracy be Damned" rule have limits? Could someone be launching spaceships to Mars in 1602?
  • Should massive alliances be allowed? Does it make the game better or worse?
  • Recent terriorist attacks and other events, such as the Pope's funeral.
  • What nation should be given control of Mecca?

I will have each nation that wishes to join the UN post their nation's name, leader, government type, flag, and other stats which will be added to the member's page, and every leader is required to post their nation's name in the title part of their post. I will post an example in a minute.

DO NOT POST.

The Great Empire of the Nile- Bobbtjoe
Spoiler :
Name: The Great Empire of the Nile
Capital: Cairo
Religion: Islam
Government: Republic, although primitive.
Flag:
Spoiler :
Flag_of_Egypt.JPG

History: Founded on the banks of the Nile river, the river played an important part of our nation's culture and history. When we were firsty, it gave us water. Hungry, it gave us food. We used to even worship the river, until the prophet led us away from our foolish ways. We remain a strong nation todday.

A statement about historical accuracy:
Spoiler :
While the real-world UN was created in the 1940's -50's, I do believe that having some sort of discussion place where leaders meet is not terribly against history. Leaders have had places to meet and discuss world events for centuries. The senate at Rome would be an example. Any connections the IOV UN has with the real world UN are small. We do not have a peace corps, we do not fully decide events, nor do we complicated set of councils or leaders. Any discussion over the historical accuracy of a UN will considered spam.

The Green Empire, led by Emperor Pedro I, it´s an absolute monarchy, and imagine a Portugal symbol in the middle of a yellow diamond which is in the middle of a green rectangle.

OOC: Here's the Papal info: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=9438165&postcount=4

And unless Christians are given equal rights, and this doesn't turn into some nanny state in 1400s, but just functions as a place to kept spam out of the main thread, I'm all for it.

Historical Accuracy be damned has limited. Be realistic.

Massive alliances are good. Makes war interesting, and encourages early war, which is always a plus.

IC: The assassinations of both the Emir and Saint Innocent XI can only mean that either the North American nations or the Eastern ones have a hand in this.

As for Mecca, I don't care.

EDIT: This isn't really a UN. Think if it as a way to not choke up the main thread with long pages of diplomacy and useless posts, often related to ITL that have very little impact if any in the game.

I added my nation to the Member's page as well as a note about historical accuracy. Will be adding both of you soon, but after seeing my example, you may want to change it. ;)

I like it how I have it, and frankly I intend to do some writing when I have time, so that will be my history. If i were to do it, I would just be repeating the things I just said.

And unless Christians are given equal rights, and this doesn't turn into some nanny state in 1400s, but just functions as a place to kept spam out of the main thread, I'm all for it.

While The Great Empire of the Nile, the nation who started this thread, is Islamic, you have our word that all religions will be treated equally here. Define what you mean as "some nanny state".

The Great Sioux Empire, distipe its hardcore shamanism, can not possibly have done it. In fact, no NA nation can, none of us even even know you exist! We're just unified savages to you!

Name: Byzantine Republic

Government: final choice, Republic.

Religion: none at the official level.

Leader: Matthew Barabas I

Capital: Constantinople.

History: this is the same nation facing defeat in 1453. since the ottomans disappearance, the Republic had made great strides in recovering its heartland.

Capital- Tokyo

Government- Feudal Monarchy

Flag- Think Empire of the Rising Sun

Religion- Free though the Emperor is Catholic ATM.

Historical Accuracy- The whole point of it was Natives can have the same tech as everyone else anyway, so I see no reason to take it much further than that.

Who should rule Mecca- Let's be fair, the Christians ruling it would be as stupid as the Muslims ruling Jerusalem. Muslim land should be Muslim, Christian land should be Christian.

Nanny state as in our time lines UN, calling police actions and what not. Esp. since you are in charge.

Sup y'all. I'm Mali.

Capital - Timbuktu, straight up

Leader - Sultan Oliver (who's a giraffe)

Flag - Mali needs no flag. Flags are for backwater hussies who need colored fabric to feel sophisticated.

Religion - Muslim

History - We dominate the Niger River and West Africa in general. We are rich from the salt trade and sprinkle gold in our streets. If war starts we'll come flying out of our Empire faster than bats out of Hong Kong to dismantle the enemy. We are an economic and scientific hub of the Muslim World. Mali has an extreme distaste for the foolish nations.

I have a rant: when a player decides to leave the game, why does he have the choice to give ALL of his territories to one player. Suddenly, two turns in, one player has a second thought about the game and suddenly one other player has a HUGE advantage.

And historical accuracy be damned should apply to nations policies. If I want my West African nation to be Hindu, I think I should be allowed to. If some nation in the Far East wants to be a Democracy, they should be allowed to.

what huge advantage? china was the leader of the world until the British owned them.

Bob, I didn't approve of this.

Any further posts here and players will be banned.

This looks more like a IOT V rant thread. I'm out of here. Don't put me on the list. Edit: oops.
