Vietnam Crisis Escalates
-Peacekeeping Operations
Peacekeeping operations, spearheaded by the UAR, United Emirates and African Union Member states have managed to fully secure southern Vietnam. Though these areas are now under the jurisdiction of the United Nations many battles are to be fought before these areas are fully pacified. Meanwhile much of the violence is spreading to the neighboring Thailand and Burma. People are speculating as to whether further UN intervention is going to be required in these areas.
-The Ngô Quang Thuần Regime
In the north however it is a different story. UN forces tried to make advances towards Hanoi but were stopped and told that their help was no longer necessary by a group of local Warlords who had banded together to protect their hold on the area. This group calling themselves the Council of Hanoi are comprised of the 5 most powerful Hanoi warlords under the leadership of Ngô Quang Thuần who was the most powerful of the Warlords. The warlords have agreed to let Ngô Quang Thuần act as the head of state internationally for foreign affairs though he holds no sway over any internal matters. They insist that there is no need for intervention in their territory. However reports from inside the area suggest that conditions are just as bad as before with crime and violence still staggeringly high. Conflict on the council is the norm and the warlords still engage in large battles over territory and resources. Battles that are destroying an entire generation.
-The Empire of Vietnam
Established under Japan with the Emperor as head of state and a Pro-Japan Prime Minister installed as head of government. The nation is a fragile shell of a nation with no real powers. Japanese armed forces guard the border and are engaging any UN peacekeepers that come within range.
The HMS Rosemary
The ominous silhouette of an oil tanker found itself floating out of the JCZ along the coast of southern Vietnam. Oil tankers haven't been in use for decades. UAR Peacekeepers boarded the ship only to find it deserted. On opening the tanks the found dead bodies. All the crews of the four lost ships along with a large amount of Japanese crew enough to outfit a large patrol. All these crew had been killed in gunfire or other violent deaths then another tank was opened and in it was found a French crew, all women, all poisoned. In the last tanks possibly the most shocking discovery was made, enough weapons-grade plutonium to make hundreds of nuclear devices. The tanker is currently under UN guard and supervision until a consensus on what to do can be reached.
Isabel D'Cruz Granted French Citizenship
Isabel D'Cruz, notorious pirate and outlaw, managed to doge the justice of the Texarkan Mayornate during their anti-piracy operations and has now been reported to have boarded a plane in Ho Chi Minh City for Paris. She was granted a passport by French members of the peacekeeping operation.
Oil Reserves Depleted
The last known oil reserves in the world, found at the Falkland Islands, have been reported to now have been depleted. now all that's left of the Earth's fossil fuels are small pockets of natural gas in Russia and coal found in many places. Analysts are predicting that coal mining is going to become much more prevalent in the coming years to fill the gap. Antarctica, still bearing the scars of its 20th century exploitation, remains under the UN's protection so no extraction is currently permitted there. Top geologists report that Antarctica's reserves are likely to have been drained anyway. Plastics are now a luxury, glass and fibrous products are now taking over as the plastic equivalent.
The Rise of East Asia
The phenomenon of massive growth in East Asia, being referred to by analysts as The Rise of East Asia is believed to have been made possible by their large population of survivors and that their industry remained relatively undamaged during the bad years. Whereas the coasts of the Americas were bombarded with nuclear weapons and plague and chaos ravaged Europe, East Asia fell victim to a much cleaner fate with much of its key facilities left undamaged. Now it is becoming host to several new nations and although none of them have been completely successful so far (Indochina remains in chaos, Sìchuān launched an non entirely successful operation into Tibet, and a vote of no confidence in their leader passed in Korea after plans to invade Antarctica) analysts predict that East Asia could be the seat of the fastest growing powers in the world. Many worry however that Vietnam is just the start and that rather than order more chaos is going to follow.
