After ensuring what few personnel and financial assets it had in the country have been safely vacated, the United Arab Republic severs all diplomatic relations with the Empire of Japan. We are fed up with its continued attempts to stall a proper investigation of the Gulf of Tonkin incident and its wholesale contempt for United Nations initiatives. This incident over the HMS Rosemary is the last straw; regardless of precisely whom is responsible for the barbaric conditions found aboard the ship, without Japanese obstinacy and its deliberate interference in UNVIFOR the atrocity could have, and almost certainly would have been prevented.

Pursuant to Parliamentary Bill 17-2105A, ratified by Heads of State Assad and Amirmuaz earlier today, the United Arab Republic has adopted the following measures:
  • Closure of the embassy in Tokyo;
  • Closure of the Suez Canal to Japanese shipping and Japanese-registered vessels;
  • Total embargo on Japanese goods;
  • Seizure of Japanese commercial assets within the United Arab Republic;
  • Issue of a travel ban to Japan;
  • Closure of borders to Japanese citizens, excepting properly-processed refugees.
Additionally, all Japanese nationals are given 72 hours to leave the United Arab Republic, after which time persons that have not received government sanction may be arrested on suspicion of espionage and sedition.

In other news, Jerusalem has issued an official statement that it does not recognize the Empire of Vietnam, declaring it an illegitimate and impotent régime created to serve as a front for Japanese imperial conquest.

From: Japan
To: the World

Japan has nothing to do with this attack. Also, as you know, Japanese soldiers were found dead. Why would we kill our own soldiers?

Who says you killed your own soldiers? Perhaps they were causalities on the raid of the oil rig, hastily hidden away to try to avoid suspicion. After all, it was enough Japanese crew "to serve a large patrol"

What we want to know, is why the Frenchwomen were specifically poisoned. That means our nationals were specifically targeted out compared to the others.

Then again...

In other news, the United Arab Republic invites representatives from Greece and Rome to a diplomatic conference to defuse tensions before either side does something monumentally stupid.

To: The Irish Republic
From: The People's Republic of Sìchuān

What name calling? What interference? We specifically declined a request to use Sìchuānese territories as staging ground for a UN intervention to prevent any so-called interference on either side. The fact is, no intervention in the Hénèi region is to be successful without Sìchuānese assistance. To that effect, Chéngdū is taking proactive action.

If you wish to speak of disconnections from reality, remember that the cries of mice go unnoticed by the ears of oxen. Keep to biofuel.

Can't you read a map? There is already a UN controlled region adjacent to the Hanoi Council's territory, and it is accessible by water as well. UNVIFOR doesn't need Sichuan.

And wise words yet again fall upon deaf ears.

Also, Dublin might want to learn to read a map. One of the geographic kind.

Just a suggestion, as we fear your presumably wonderful army dying en masse among the peaks of the Hoàng Liên Mountains, and the glorious navy falling to the Japanese iron grip on the Gulf of Dongjing.

UNVIFOR doesn't need anyone, we aren't sure where you're getting that from. No one's claimed that. But Sìchuān is a far superior staging ground for operations than Tây Bắc Province for sure.

The wise loves the fool, the fool hates the wise.

You specifically said "no intervention in the Hénèi region is to be successful without Sìchuānese assistance." Yopu did not "No intervention is likely to be successful", you said "No intervention is going to be successful", period.

Further, UNVIFOR will not be defeated by warlords who are already cutting each other to ribbons, and we are not going to go through the JCV without Japan's permission.

Emperor Andreas I Laskaris will represent the Roman Empire. he will arrive on the Destroyer Nicosia.

the need for a military vessel is obvious.

The Platonic Republic will deploy a trio from the Governing Caste to speak on behalf of the Philosopher Council.

Takis Papadakis himself will come along with two founders of the Platonic Republic: Eleni Agne from Larissa and Oussama Mihayshi from Benghazi.

We will come by civilian aircraft, we unlike the Romans we do not worship Ares or Mars as the Romans called him.

OOC: I am going to be a bit busy, so I will possible be taking shots during breaks here. Just a warning.

From: Japan, Vietnam
To: Hanoi Council, Sichuan, UNVIFOR

In order to bring peace to Vietnam, to unify the entire nation of Vietnam under one government and to end the violence and chaos, the Empires of Japan and Vietnam declare war on the Hanoi Council and shall begin the military invasion of their territories soon.

UNVIFOR and Sichuan are advised to stay out of the Hanoi Council territories. Japan shall classify any UNVIFOR or Sichuanese intervention in the region as hostile and will not hold any responsibility for casualties that the UN or Sichuan armies may take if they intervene.

Nationals from UAR have 24 hours to leave Japan and Vietnam. Japan and Vietnam sever their diplomatic relations with UAR and close their embassies in Cairo. Japan and Vietnam embargo all UAR products. All UAR ships and all ships of other nationalities that go to UAR or carry UAR products that pass through Japanese and Vietnamese territorial waters will be denied access to ports and may be captured by the Japanese and Vietnamese Navies.

The Platonic Republic would be willing to take any aggression towards Hanoi as a act of war against the United Nations. Therefore Greek, Libyan, Sicilian and Sardinian citizens in Japan are advised to be ready to evacuate if need be from Japan in case it takes it wroth on the Platonic Republic as it does to our Arabian friends. We will grant automatic citizenship to any refugee escaping Japan that are not already parts of the Platonic Republic and want to be in harmony. We advise Japan that if hostilities do emerge between the Platonic Republic and Japan that we are willing by honour to restrict to civilized warfare. Hence we will only operate on the basis of the UN charter mission and under condition that conflict is restricted to Vietnam, in order to avoid either the Platonic Republic or mainland Japan (not to be confused with China) suffering from the cruelties of the conflict.

We do not want war with Japan but we are committed to the UN peace mission and will do our part in the defence for justice.

the Roman Empire reminds Japan that capturing any UAR (or any UAR controlled) ship may well be an act of war. they have defensive pacts with both the Roman Empire and the Platonic Republic. probably others by now.

(note: should it actually happen, the Platonic Republic and the Roman Empire will stop any disputes and help out the UAR until it is resolved. Common sense.)

Agreed; it is better to debate the Thessaloniki question after Japan is kept in line of the balance of power and stopped from its now naked aggression.

We do not see how war against a regime of Warlords (that the UN members, including UAR, Ireland and Rome treat as an enemy) means war against the UN.

he Roman Empire reminds Japan that capturing any UAR (or any UAR controlled) ship may well be an act of war.

It is UAR who started first economic warfare. If they stop their embargo and closure of the Suez, then we shall stop our embargo and capturing of UAR trade ships in the pacific.

Hence we will only operate on the basis of the UN charter mission

Japan, not being a member of the UN, does not recognize parts of the charter, including fire-based weapons, like napalms, as well as restrictions on nuclear weapons.

Then you are a worshipper of Ares and hence a heretic to the principles of civilized warfare!

Repent before its too late! In the end your war will result in your burning by your own match. The Warrior Caste will do its best to protect Vietnam!

we are talking more about capturing any UAR ships or any ships that happen to carry UAR products.

the suez isn't even up and running yet.

Platonic republic, they are of a shinto religion, if anything. they likely dont even know what Ares is. in fact, even the Emperor is confused if Ares is greek or Roman...

It was a tone of expression, like "son of a gun." We were basically calling the Japanese government as following the most barbaric, savage forms of warfare. Athena in contrast represents civilized warfare and the hunter.

Also: Ares is the Greek name, Mars is the Roman one, although Rome had a different (more positive) vision of the war god...

Still: let us commence the hunt!

Ah. gotcha.

also, we ask the Empire of japan to withdraw the Japanese workers from various Japanese companies that were tasked with improving Rhomania's shipping and naval capabilities.

the Roman Empire has paid them for their outstanding service, but feels that relations with japan has degraded too far for them to remain. we will finish their jobs.

let us try to part on... well, not violent terms.

The obvious question here is were there any other ships or boats in the vicinity of the Rosemary?

also

Shall Rhodesia consider this an act of war? All Rhodesian citizens are to leave Japan at once, and head to safer pastures in Africa. Meanwhile we will shut down all of our communications with Japan.
