Sure doesn't seem like it from the posts. The guy has a pretty good track record, don't you think? Though it does sound like a lot of changes, I trust Sid, and his tried and true development approach, to give us a game that is fun and engrossing.

Do you trust Sid? I do.

I trust civ Sid to make Civ V at least as good as Civ IV

Do we know what Sid's level of involvement in Civ5 is? It seems like Shafer is project manager, or at least lead design.

Indeed. It has Sid's name attached, but it's Shafer's baby. Having worked with Jon just a little bit, I found him to be quite reasonable and very intelligent. It looks like he's making a lot of risky decisions on Civ5, but he'll do a good job.

Sid hasn't been actively involved in Civilization for awhile. He gives his feedback, but lets others do most of the creative process. If I were worried every time a new person takes over a project, it would be a big deal. But Firaxis has a good track record, regardless of whether it is Soren Johnson or Jon Shafer.

Shafer's cool?

As long as there isn't some ugly DRM with Civ V I'm buying

I have faith Sid won't have his name put on a Civilization game that sucks. I also generally have faith in Firaxis to deliver a good title. The Civilization series has improved with every iteration on the PC, and I'm willing to give its current stewards the benefit of the doubt.

Take Two isn't Activision or EA, either. At the very least, they do not seem inclined to kill the goose laying the Civilized eggs ;)

If I didn't trust Sid, I wouldn't have named my first son Sid Meier.

(Okay, that's a lie.)

I have never worked with Shaefer, and I don't have reasons to not believe in your statement ( his latest babies, like FF for BtS, are really good ideas that seem to be released before reaching the finished point, though ... not that it is his fault ;) ), but I have some doubts about the final integration of all the features in the game. It is both truth that civ V will have a lot of new features and that a lot of coders are working on the main engine in various aspects of it ( for a example, the BtS Ai was coded by one coder while the civ V one is being coded by a whole team ) ... in those situations there are always things that don't fit perfectly in the others....

Wasn't Sid involved quite a bit with CivRev?

I trust whoever is making Civ V to do a good job with it. I just hope that the game will stick to me like CivIII did.

I certainly trust Sid and Jon to make what they feel is the best game they can, and I'm sure that it'll be worth playing and paying for!

I think the only Civ games that Sid has had a lead designer role was Civilization 1, Civilization Revolution, and Civilization Network. Other than that, I think he's been an advisor to every other iteration of Civ.

Nobody knows how much Sid is or isn't involved. So maybe "in firaxis we trust" - kinda like "in blizzard we trust".

I trust Firaxis to deliver a good civ game and seriously doubt they'd risk ruining everything good they've done with the series by deviating too far from the civ forumula for fun.

Firaxis is abyssimal with communication. Their website for IV and now for V is really pitiful. No forums of their own. Little word from devs. But you have to suspect they have some quiet lurkers here getting a feel for the bigger/common things the community is interested in. It would be folly for them to start threads like "what do you wanna see in Civ5" because people already do that and they'd get buried in a landslide of crackheaded ideas and "why isn't my civ/leader in the game" same old.

It's interesting how many "negative" voices there are on the forum, but then these polls show the overwhelming majority of readers are at least moderately optimistic.
