Oh man. This feels like a loaded question. I'm going with France because of football. Italy is clearly dominate winning 18 world cup matches vs 9 for France.

is it weird or whatever to have an avatar of a person/character of the opposite gender/sex?

Not at all. There are perfectly valid reasons for this. Perhaps you just admire some aspect of this person or like the story that the character is from.
