INES III: Storm Tapestry

To World Archipelagos
From UK

You are strangely generous for such small holdings. Yet, we cannot find any other fault so we accept your offer.

I should clarify that this includes the relatively small islands near Papua New Guinea and the islands off the Scottish coast.

You're buying Orkney and Shetland? :hammer2:

We are hereby taking loans to help build up our economy. Any loans given to use will be repaid, with interest within the next two to three years, should everything go to plan.

Yeah, this just went from being crazy to stupid. I'm out.

Sorry to see you go. You’re a great player who got stuck in a tough spot for most of the game.

I will mention again, though, that as a mod I find nothing wrong with big AK. If you add up the economy numbers, you’ll realize there isn’t a balance issue, and, perhaps more importantly, there are plenty of real world precedents for the Treaty of Baltimore. The War of Spanish Succession, the travails of the Jagiellon dynasty, the Brazilian-Confederate relationship, the proposed Franco-British Union, Mercosur, and the postwar unification of Europe, for example. Ah well. Bon voyage, Shadowbound.

I'm working on a major project and I don't have time to continue this. I'm dropping out.

And sorry to see you go too. Good luck with what you're working on. Israel's domestic politics were a pleasure to read about.

OOC: Yep.

OOC: So you're spending what's equal to a new ASP on islands not worth spit?

I've got some prime swampland to sell you if you're interested...

OOC: The Carabiean has a land shortage, thus setting an upper limit on how much we can improve our economy until we can buy more land. I'd actually be interested in your swampland offer.

Just for you, 3 Asp :)

OOC: I think the problem does not lay with how the Atlantic Kingdom is acting or how big they are... I believe the problem is Brazil accepting such a deal... they were being accepted into the TUA without much of a problem and had no reason to accept annexation or vassalage from the Atlantic Kingdom and I felt it was ridiculous and unnecessary.

At least that is how I feel, whether everyone else feels the same I have no idea but I just figured I would let you know.

IC:
To Atlantic Kingdom
From the Republic of Texas

As we said upon leaving the TUA, we will treat you as you treat us. Leave us alone and we leave you alone. If an NAP makes you feel safer then we will sign one, but we will sign it with the entire TUA.

I believe the problem is Brazil accepting such a deal

When Immac was CUWA, he kept stonewalling Brazil's entry into the TUA in diplo, so I decided to build off of that.

OOC:This is the issue I have as well, though it's quite amplified for as I'm currently in a Poli Sci class which has basically told me that there is no way any state (particularity in the sort of world this NES finds itself in) would willingly become vassal when it is in a position where its survival is not threatened. Brazil could of fixed its problems with a bit of help so.... Sorry there's my rant, I feel much better now :D

IC:

The Union of Patagonia feels that it must follow Texas in leaving the TUA, we'd wish to remain on friendly terms with its members but we cannot be apart of an organization which supports such a bold imperialistic expansion. We wish you all good luck.

To the Citizens of Brazil:
To all those who do not wish to live in a non-representative government we shall be streamlining our immigration processes and will allow all law abiding Brazilians to become Patagonians after a short period of time.

I was hoping not to go into the IC presentation too far before the update, but Brazil (and South Africa's) new status vis-a-vis the Atlantic Kingdom certainly isn't vassalhood. No vassalhood. Full integration. Remember, from an in-game perspective, what the partition of Canada must have felt like from the view of the conservative leaders in Rio. From the start, they were denied admission into the annexationist Treaty of United Americas (I know that the longstanding negative stance was slowly changing, but since no offer had been made, Rio had no way of knowing), while their traditional enemy Patagonia got in. Then came the Marxist rebellion, scaring the Brazilian landowners, who only managed to stabilize the situation with foreign support (as much from the Inca as from the TUA, which wasn't taking a clear stance against the communists). Finally, diplomats from the AK showed up, appealing to a common estate culture, as well as Brazil's need to be a part of something bigger in a very dangerous world. The decision of South Africa (which also wanted to be part of big AK, for much more obvious safety reasons) helped convince Rio that it would be an essential pillar of a triple union.

No doubt from the perspective of Texas and Patagonia, the Treaty of Baltimore would be very startling, so germanicus and merciary, you are playing in character quite well, but IMHO, the tripartite union makes good sense. Given the level of war in the game world, would you really expect Brazil to just sit around and wait to get dogpiled like the Order did?

I sincerely hope Baltimore doesn’t interfere with game immersion for any more people, but I never would have allowed it had it not made good IC sense. I hold the NES to as much realism as I can manage, and I deeply respect player input. The reason for this part of the post was to answer what merciary said about perception of threat. :)

We thank you for the offer, but we have stratagems to play before any serious consideration of flight.
