insane start

Unfortunately, I don't know how to post a pic here.

The game I'm playing now is unreal, to say the least. The best map I've ever seen, with rivers and luxuries everywhere around me. I moved from my starting position by two places. Doing so, I gave up an ivory, and gained a cow and a silver. I think that was the right move.

So far, I have 4 silver, 6 cows, 2 deer, and a horse.

You need to sign up to a hosting site, most are free they will allow you to upload a screen save picture to them and then all you do is link the url on the hosting site. To do this highlight the url, and click on the insert image (yellow mountain icon) post options which will wrap [img][/img] tags around the url. You can do that with any img, as long as its of a required format for the forum (usually bmp, jpeg, svg, gif etc). A url to the websites img is all you need.

That is one stupendous start though. :)

No, you just need to scroll down when creating a new post or used the advanced button when editing. Then you'll find the "manage attachments" button that allows you to upload the pictures directly to the forums. This will make it a thumbnail at the bottom of your post. Once attached, before you submit the post there will also be a link to the file below where you type. You can right click that link, select save link location and past that url in between the image tags, or into the pop-up you get when you click the insert image button.

Yeah yeah there are several ways, whatever floats your boat.

I don't use forum uploaders for imgs, quicker to use my own hosting site. And those tiny little screens they use just piss me off tbh, that's assuming the site has a decent upload speed. Sometimes it takes ages to upload, although this site being relatively large I assume has a decent one.

The op used a hosting site to attach the image and this site to attach the save. That's one thing I would use it for, anything but img files.

There's something to be said for it when posting lots of large images, which is probably why forums host them in those god awful pixel prisons, but meh. Note most people chose not to use the forum hosting feature, that's not just through ignorance I expect. It's a matter of taste. Although the forum gods will probably prefer you host through them so they can ensure its a clean link, which is particularly true of non images which actually make users detach files.

I have just started a game with Askia, Earth, Huge, Immortal, Marathon settings. I think it bugged a bit because I can pick up 2 CS settlers by the end of turn 2 and it has 4 spices within 1 tile another 3 within 2 tiles and 4 more within 3 tiles of the city Not sure what to do with 11 spices though.

it is more or less a bug. There was just not enough availible land to spawn them further than 4 tiles from your capital so once you settled yours, they can no longer settle. The bug lies in that a lone settler won't try to move/scout to settle. If you steal them for workers, it will still count for a CS wiping regarding your diplomacy so you should pick them before meeting any other civs/hopefully before any other civ met those settlers as well.

This is the best start I can ever remember having. I moved 2 tiles east to plant. 6 total lux's/4 different (all calendar too) and I found El Dorado which let me get these two other cities down by turn 20. Just weathered a Siam bumrush which cost me my scarcher and a spearman... He offered all his cash/resources for peace which I took. Researching chivalry and horsemen are close to done (upgrade to camel archers) and iron just came on line so swordsmen and then LS upgrades will make Siam mine. Arabia/Emperor/Fractal

No RA's yet in the game, their gold is all mine so far... hehe. NC came on a bit later due to the rex. I hard built a worker, the library and NC in Mecca, bought the libraries for the other two cities.

Starting position is everything.

Diety/Pangea/Standard/Standard

Turn 186 Domination victory.

The earth maps were all designed to be played under the pre March patch city placement rules.
The standard (and smaller) versions all have issues in several spots of the map due to those rules changing and the maps not.

The large version doesn't have as many of those issues, but it's still much more of a placement challenge than on the randomly generated small maps.

If you have a saved post of the initial game, I would much enjoy trying culture from this start. I usually play on deity but I'm so f scared of culture since .275 I would just practice it in an arguably better than legend-start with again arguably the best UB/civ for the job...if I can ever get more time to play too but that's a different issue!

Looking at my save files, the earliest save I still have is turn 72. My son had started some games since this one so the initial start has been overwritten.

I'm currently on turn 135, took 2 Siam cities including capitol. Headed east and took Ravenna from Rome, currently comtemplating the strategy to take Rome (just on the other side of a narrow isthmus east of Ravenna). He has other cities beyond Rome, might need more units to flood the tiles, but the terrain is daunting. That 'one tile' is a marsh :P.

if you settle on a grassland cow, you won't get the +1 production from stable in the city tile. you'll still be at 3 food/1 production.

there's sheep in third ring to the south, so a stable in his current position will eventually get to +6.

I tested it the other day, you do still get the +1 production bonus after building a stable. however, if he had gone 1 west he would have gotten 7 instead of 6.

That's a great start. On a huge map with a south american start you'll end up with plenty of trading partners, I would prioritize scouting to meet as many civs as early as possible. You'll be swimming in gold!

This is one of the best science starts you can have: Lots of jungles around your capital!.
Its a pity there isn't a mountain nearby, though. Map is continents plus.

My best start ever: 5 distinct luxuries around my capital months ago (I didn't take a screenshot of it  ).

This was a not too shabby start, especially production/money-wise.. Settings are continents/small/king. However, the landmass only contained me, three CS and Arabia, and was quite small.

There is an additional sheep next to the Barb camp, and if I move one tile down, I would also get pearls.

EDIT: Didn't played very long (to coal etc), but iron also appeared next to the gems there :)

Best start was this weekend when I was trying out the Siam free wats trick on diety. I couldn't ask for better with so much production and defense.

You can grab the initial save file from my comment in this thread.

I had an OK start with spain, with river so I started to play.
2. round dicovered eldorado for 1000g. 5.th round hut gave me the map with one more wonder for 500g
at turn 20. i have discovered the reef barrier for 1000g.

I replayed later when noticed the 5th natural wonder is 5 turn away from start but requires level 2 scout with +1sight to discover at the sea.

This was the best start i ever had, still got the save file :)

Haha :) The first start after reading this tread:

my-imag

EDIT:
my-imag
where is my image???

can't access my steam screenshots now, but last night I played a OCC game and got the best starting position I've ever seen with only one move required.

Was near a forking river, so almost every tile was river. Also had: 1 marble, 1 gold, 2 sugar (+3 more in the 5 tile radius), 2 horse, 1 sheep, 2-3 cow. Possibly one other lux. Everything else was a good mix of grassland and forest.
