BtS wont install. i get no error messages to indicate what is wrong and it just ctd's.

it goes through installation process as normal and then this comes up in a white rectangular box

"set up is searching for updated directx runtime components and updating as necessary. this may take a few mins..."

1 or 2 seconds after this message goes away the game ctd, this happens everytime i try to install. i presume then that this must be the cause but what i do about it i have no idea and thats why im here. can anyone help?

i have vista, vanilla and warlords and have installed all the patches manually

thanks

ive just seen a possible cure to my problem in another thread which i see minutes after i make this thread
ill give that a try and see what heppens.

and before anyone asks i did do a search and i found nothing helpful because nothing else had the same "symtoms" so to speak

possible cure didnt work, still haveing same problem, so ignore last post and can anyone help??

i'm having the same problem. tried to install on another comp (after installing civ4 on it) this time after hanging it came up with ERROR 1706 no valid source etc.

When your installing are you using an account with administrative privileges? Vista is annoying in that aspect. Put the disk in the drive, but cancel the autorun. Than go to your 'Computer' (formerly known as 'My Computer') and right-click on the drive that contains the BTS disk. Click on 'Explore'. Once all the files are showing right-click on the autorun file and than click on the 'Run as administrator'. Try that.

If I'm reading the above correctly, the game finished installing, but crashed when searching/preparing to install DirectX? Check and see what version of Directx you have and update it manually. Than try and run the game and see if it works.

I could be misunderstanding your problem.

did you try to install the newest DirectX from Microsoft ?
earlier versions of DirectX 10 (which comes with Vista) did not come with quite a few libraries that BtS needs - maybe it tries to install DirectX 9c on your comp which won't work because the version BtS comes with does not run on Vista...

edit: x-post and @rikgreen: before it gets forgotten: Welcome to Civfanatics :band:

the only installation from BtS was to patch the game to where it needs to be to install the game, but i have since reinstalled itl. the game hasnt installed at all.

ill look into new versions of dx10 and see what happens, thanks guys

there was new drivers for my graphics card available and a small windows update but downloading these havnt cured the problem, no change at all.

any ideas anyone?
