Hear ye, hear ye; Gentle(?)men, I am considering setting up a PBEM game similar to Nighthawk’s smart & very enjoyable “Triumvirate Uprising”. Same setup, 3 civ’s per player/no AI, only on a random map rather than Earth. :D
The format is outstanding as far as reducing # of humans & increasing the pleasure of taking one’s time to manage 3 civ’s with each turn(!).
FINAL RULES:
LEVEL = Monarch

MAP = Factual or Big-&-Small with islands*, Huge (6 players/18 civs), temperate, toroidal, low sea level (more landmass to play on but still separated by some ocean)

CIVs/Leaders = Random. Play the civs & leader U R dealt, wherever they are (testing suggests that “teams” are nicely spread around map).

MISC > Huts & Random Events
> Barbs
> Complete Kills
> no tech or unit trading, gifting, or brokering outside of team
> huts, events & quests
> no city switching (cities can be switched due to culture, war, or peace settlement only)
> use PBEM Tracker (thanks again guys are an excellent tool for all of us!)

No longer open for discussion so as to attract PUNCTUAL, Polite, committed players.
By “punctual”, I mean checking daily to see if it’s your turn & TAKING it. How long U ponder on each civ once downloaded matters little (& is the essence of why PBEM is so enjoyable).
What slows these things down is the DAYS everyone has to wait for other players to take a few minutes (especially during early turns) to be POLITE & take their turn. Understanding we all have RL’s that cramp our gaming time to varying degrees.
However, the players we seek are POLITE enough to let everyone else know when they can’t take their turn for x days. If a player is not POLITE & does not, they WILL BE replaced... sooner rather than later.

“Empires are not created by those that cannot be honorably prompt & polite.” Sun Tzu KenWyn, “Art of Gaming”.

This post has been re-purposed as the new OP.

House Rules:

-No gifting units between players
-No double moves: You may gift yourself units, but the total number of moves any unit makes in a given turn may never exceed the number of moves it had at the beginning of the turn
-No gifting cities between players outside of peace settlements
-No gifting cities within a team after the first turn of it being founded

Excellent men, excellent. :hatsoff:
Couple more & we can launch(!). :)

An item i did not include above was Advanced Start.
I think it's a good idea, maybe around 500. What are your feelings about it (&/or any other choices above)?

Disclaimer:
This will be a 1st at admin'g this format + i wasn't in on the launch of TriCiv to see how that unfolded. I'v asked Nighthawk for some mentoring to get it set up. From my testing i set up 5 (or 6) 3-civ teams with the same player
named in all 3. Then launch & see what happens.
If U read this Nighthawk, is that how U set up TriCiv?

IIRC Nighthawk actually had to do a little Python coding.

Well alri-i-i-ighty-y-y then, we seem to have our starting core.

As announced, we will be using PBEM Tracker to coordinate the game moves.
I will need everyone's EXACT, case-sensitive, in-game name + Tracker handle.

"methinkso", I'v played games here with the other aces. Your profile herein is bare. What is your PBEM & Civ4 experience? Do U have a Tracker account?
----------------------------
Last chance for input regarding settings...?
Hearing none within a day, i will go with * choices indicated in opening post.

Once again, please work with me on this unique setup. May have to have a trial run/rehearsal (or 2?) to get us up & running. :please:

I'm in a few PBEM games here, a couple with Knoedel, though I haven't played with any of the others here. I'm fairly experienced with Civ IV in any case (but certainly not an expert ;) ). Tracker name is "methinkso", same as my forum name.

I like the options you chose and if you're going to swing either way on it, I'd like huts and random events to be on, to liven things up.

Excellent. :salute:

I enjoy them also. Hence the game's name.
"Luck" depends on a # of things, including whether you have been naughty or nice. ;)

I'd prefer Noble over Monarch actually and Huge over Large.
I'm fine with Random Events and Huts.
I assume by "Cities can flip" you mean after conquest?
Furthermore I'd rather have Tech Trading on but without Brokering.

In-game names I will probably change for flavor after I've seen what civs I've been dealt, for now you can call me Knoedel 1-3.
On tracker it's "Imperator Knödel". I don't know what I was thinking with that umlaut either, just bear with me here.

Have you contacted Nighthawk about how exactly you have to set this game up?

OK, thx all so far.

Noble gets a little generous/easy when considering we will all have 2 other civs guaranteed to be cooperative & trade all they can. Thots from others?

Map will be Huge since we have 6 players X 3 civs.

Yes, Flip after Conquest or anytime (makes culture & espionage more important).

Tech sharing in any form may be little generous/easy when considering we will all have 2 other civs guaranteed to be non-aggressive & trade all they can. Thots from others?

Yes. Nighthawk will make himself avail if needed.
I believe it can be done rather easily using 3-person teams. EXCEPT, with a Random assignment of civs, i will not know who to assign to which civ within Tracker. We may have to do the 1st round of turns the old fashion way via emails. Once we all know our civs+leaders, i can then enter into Tracker.
Just thinking out loud. Advice/suggestions invited. Seems like setting this up is an adventure itself(!?).

OK. Everyone has had their chance for input, thanks. :hatsoff:
For those that didn't specify a different name, i'll use your handle here.
So-o-o, think i'm ready to try launching this endeavor this weekend.
Stay tuned.

Game is set up on Tracker under "Instant Karma"
Here are settings(note):
LEVEL = Prince (mid-point of range)
MAP = Big-&-Small with islands, Huge (6 players/18 civs), temperate, toroidal, low sea level
CIVs/Leaders = random.
MISC = Huts & Random Events, Barbs, Complete Kills, Cities can Flip anytime (adds to Culture's importance) ,
Tech Trading or Brokering ONLY within team.
Let's try this as an interesting hybrid setting that takes advantage of unique team format. If any STRONG objections please shout out now. Otherwise, have fun "negotiating with yourself". :D
First round will have to be emailed since we won't know which 3 civs/leaders each of us has until 1st turn is played. When 2nd turn comes to me, i'll load leading civ for each player into Tracker.
Sure hope this is as interesting & exciting (& hassle-free) as i envision! :bounce:

Hey, just a heads up, civs on the same team will automatically share all the techs they research, so there's no need to turn on tech trading or brokering.

I am not sure that is the case. In Triumvirate, my teams, the Aztecs don't have the same techs as the Egyptians.

But maybe the do if in direct contact.
