Interesting Screenshots

If I want that, I'll invade Babylon and Persia and not have to build a bunch of Galleons to invade across the sea with.

I don't understand why you posted the pic if you are going to snarl at anyone who comments. I was just making a joke - in the tradition of CFC where resetting boundaries is an SOP.

Humourously challenged people should probably avoid those threads where humour is a common element. :nono:

Sorry, I didn't realize I was being that snarly. I was trying to joke that the starting location sucked, not that anyone's ideas/jokes about invading them were bad.

(But I'm still not going to invade them)

I'm more like invasion-type. So if I see something that I can conquer with small expenses, I'll take it :goodjob:

Well, if Rome has Oil, then I'll have to invade them to get the Oil stop Caesar's WMD program.

vmxa, could you please tell me where you got those border graphics (territory.pcx, I think the file is)? I would like to use those.

JJansen has two improvements to his Improved Borders that vmxa is using. They are Floating Improved Borders and Thin Floating/Improved Territory Borders.

I added the original borders by JJansen, but I am going to try the Thin Floaters next (like when I get home from work today!).

I think VMXA will like those as well! They're a less stodgy, less intrusive.

About that Roman island; that's about as clear as you'll ever get to see how bad the Romans are at culture. It's 880 AD, they haven't had a single known opponant, they lack lux completely, yet they haven't built a single temple! They're like that as well in my games, I think they're the least culture-interested civ in the whole game.

Civ III trivia: How do you "capture" a settler as in the screenshot below?

Build one in a city with foreigners.

Well, you didn't really capture it. What happen is that you captured a Greek city and let it build a settler (for you) while the city was still full of Greeks. When it was born, the settler took on the nationality of the city that birthed it. In this case it became Greek.

This only happens when none of the citizens in the city are your nationality. Even one will 'dilute' the gene pool, so to speak, and give you a settler of your own.

When this settler builds a city, it will start with a Greek population, unitl it grows. Any new citizens are yours (Maya).

This little trick lets you build 'slaves' (non-native workers) in captured cities, too.

And since their nationality is not yours, you pay no upkeep on them, whether settler or slave.

Another piece of trivia; if you settle a town with a foreign settler it can permanantly ruin your diplomatic reputation. It may be a bug.

Like: I captured a Greek city, let it build a Greek settler and then build a Greek city while Greece was still alive. What treaties/deals would need to be in place to trigger a rep/trade hit?

Sorry, I was using sloppy terminology; by Diplomatic reputation I mean whether AI civs will vote for you in the UN election. Just like razing or abandoning foreign cities can make the AI hate you, so can building with foreign setters.

Disbanding slaves as well. It is probably the same mechanism.

I don't know how the diplomatic screen got transposed but I guess the RNG gods didn't want anyone to eat fish.

And I don't know the record for the quickest volcano death but this was the best I've seen.

Something unexpected...

And I don't know the record for the quickest volcano death but this was the best I've seen.

I'm fairly certain I've had one in the inter-turn from 4000BC to 3950BC. I've certainly had earlier than 3500BC though!
