Singing: And so they shot him till he was dead.
Talking: Oh, those Russians...

Un-modded game with a 206 SPT city and I haven't even built a Manufacturing plant yet! I plan on building most of my spaceship in this city, lol.

Why is a city with production like that building wealth?

Glad someone got my little joke.

:faint:

Why is a city with production like that building wealth?

I'm 5 turns away from space flight, and I have plenty of other 100spt metro's to produce my military. I'm running a deficit, but I've put a few metros on wealth to keep a surplus. I'll switch it to the spaceship parts asap, but until then wealth is the only thing that doesn't waste 80+ spt.

some people would say it "wastes" every single shield...

Well something had to make up the deficit, and there is no difference between a 100 spt city producing Tanks and a 200 spt city producing Tanks. If I switched one of the 100spt cities to wealth, and the 200 spt city to tanks, I'd be wasting 100spt, getting 1 tank per turn, and only getting 50 gpt. This way I get 100 gpt waste 0 spt and get 1 tank per turn.

In other words, 1 tank per turn doesn't equal 100 gpt.

@Gosnork

I would irrigate that bonus grassland and plant a forest on a non-bonus grassland. Get an extra shield and stop the +1 growth/starve cycle.

(a more general tip: IF you decide you need to irrigate a grass tile, irrigate the bonus-grass over the normal grass. If you get a Golden Age, or if you mobilize, you'll would get +1 shield for an extra tile)

some people would say it "wastes" every single shield...

If you are not conquering, why build the units? That would be a waste!

I'm curious as to why it has zero corruption. It's not your capitol, as far as I can tell. I see the FP, but I don't know the FP's effects in vanilla. What version is this?

It's the FP city...

I know FP doesn't give zero corruption....but it must be close enough to the capitol to have corruption reduced to zero.

I'd have a palace pre-build started to get Apollo Program the next turn after Space Flight. Maybe a couple more turns on wealth or build something in a single turn. I wouldn't mind having a city like that.

The FP, in vanilla sets both city rank and distance to palace to 0 in the city it is build. (the real palace has rank 1, so actually has some corruption)

In Conquest, the real palace has rank 0 and the FP only has distance from palace set to zero, but not the rank. But what it also does, it lowers the corruption and waste cap by 70%
So normally the cap is 90%, with the FP the cap is 20%, with both the courthouse and the police station each lowering it by 10% also, the 3 buildings combined lower the cap to 0%.
So this city may have devastating corruption, you don't see it because its corruption is capped at 0%.

I'm playing C3C.
The city has a Police Station and Courthouse. They were built before the FP when I was planning on putting it to the city just north of this one, then coal popped up here and I wanted it in my Iron Works city.

I just can't believe that there is aluminum, iron x2, coal x2, saltpeter, and oil in such a small area.
@MAS
I've already had my GA, and I won't need to mobilize, I'm going for space race and already more powerful than every other civ. Great tip though, I hadn't thought about that.
@Overseer
I have a MGL waiting to rush the Apollo Program in my capital.

Funny thing is, if you look at the screenshot, that rubble to the west of the city could have been the IW city, it would have the coal from that small island. Also there is another IW site to the NW about 15 tiles. Normally I never get to build the IW, but this game has 3 different locations using 3 different sets of coal and iron.

Finished the game, won with the Space Race, no other civ ever built a single component. New Beijing built the enitre spaceship, but the 4 turns needed to research all the modern age techs held back the spaceship production. It finally reached 236 spt:
