If they take the deal and then declare, it ruins their trade rep with all the others. (oops - just saw that there are only 2 of you left.)
There were only two of us to start out. Lol.
Either your rep is trashed or you are trying to trade for Ceasar's only Coal. Those are the only possible causes that would get you the "never accept" here.
I think it was his only coal. But now I built a city overtop of his colony of it, so I have some now. :)

Why are your cities built like that? So spread out in some places, so not in others?

I build my cities where there are resources to support them. Wherever there are extra resources are usually where I build them.

My question to Billasae: was that against a human opponent? I have never, ever seen the AI build so tightly, your minimap looks like Rome is controlled by me....

Hm... I think I smell the problem here. This is a large/huge map, and thats normal AI spacing. It is Bllsae's spacing that needs work.

Also: 2158AD, and you're still researching Atomic Theory???? :faint:

Cheiftain level explains the tech. :p

Nope, completely AI.

Yeah, really, I suck at this game, and even though my technology is late, it's still better than the Romans.

China took the Kamchatka peninsula somehow, I'm not sure how they managed it.

Tech cost comes out cheapest on Cheiftain level.

For the human. The AI has to spend twice what the human spends on cheiftain. They research a lot slower, and so, you can't rely on them to research techs you trade for.

And generally, Cheiftain level-players don't have the management skills to research a whole lot faster. :p

I reject that statement! I happen to play on Chieftan level just because I wan't to kick some AI a**! I can move up a couple of levels if I wanted to. ;)

I mean those who can't play any higher. I know from first-hand experience.

The trade is due to a rep issue. If it was the only coal they had, it would not show up for trade. You could remove the gpt and get the trade, if it was just a rep issue. To test your rep offer them something like 10gpt for a load of 1 gold.

They will take that, if they have 1 gold and your rep is good. If they have the 1 gold and refuse and no DOW is forth coming, your rep is no good.

It shows up anyways, but has (0) beside it. It just means that you have none to spare.

A good point, because trading away your only source of a luxury (or resource!) can be a life-saver especially at high levels, or in a 5CC/OCC game.

The price of a luxury, to the AI, is based on how much it will benefit the entire population, thus, the bigger the population, the higher the price. So if you have a single city compared to the AI's 20, your 1 source of Wines may buy you 2 or 3 luxuries in return! Similarly if you can live without Iron (e.g. you're building Cavalry or Horsemen - what do you need Iron for?), then don't be worried about trading away your only source of it. Give it to an ally, they'll probably give you back some luxuries in return!

No need for sarcasm.
