Interesting Times - The AI Side of RFC

i bet your really glad to be japan right now...

And welcome back!

When we last left off, we had an overview of the current state of the world in response to Spain's arrival on the world scene. Today, we start time again to see what the future has in store.

We will start off on turn 164. The Spanish people of the Iberian Peninsula have settled their first major city, Madrid, right in the heart of the peninsula:

Also, I noticed something from Aksum, what was left of Ethiopia just two turns ago:
7phi.png

That is the result of a pair of Impis attacking it in the IBT. Look at the lone archer's strength. If he fell, the Impis probably would have destroyed Aksum. If they destroyed Aksum, there would be no way for Ethiopia to spawn later on unless someone else planted a city there. If any Ethiopians are to come back in the future, they just got very lucky.

Turn 165: Not too much occurred, here, but the Khmer did settle Phnom Penh, south of capital Angkor:

Turn 166: The Spanish continue to solidify their hold over Iberia, by forming the city of Barcelona in the northeastern part of their peninsula:

Turn 167: Guess who's here?

That's right! France. Having founded their capital of Paris in the ruins of the old Celtic city of Lutetia, the French are looking to unify Gaul for the first time since before the Romans. As for the Romans, they seem to have caught a break from those barbarians. That SOD that had destroyed two of their cities and was heading for Mediolanum? I don't know exactly what happened, but the barbs stopped their advance and decided to make camp in modern-day Croatia. Only one barb still tried to take Mediolanum, and he failed.

Another event that occurred was that the Arabs and Babylonians decided to make peace, since the Arabs figured it wasn't worth it to risk their entire army to take Babylon's well-defended capital.

On to turn 168. Fed up with the game constantly changing its recommendation on where I should settle Hokkaido (), I decide to settle Sapporo on a whim:

Also, the French successfully flipped Lugdunum to them, with the city being renamed Lyon. Interestingly enough, the Romans decided to let the city go rather than risking war for it.

In addition, the Spanish continue to expand, settling the city of Cadiz:

But where there is construction, there has to be destruction as well, as the people of Per-Wadjet found out:

Those Egyptians never seem to get a break, do they? Now, Djanet is the only former Egyptian city to have never fallen to the barbs, though not for lack of trying. It's getting increasingly lonely in Africa...

Turn 169: Nothing really exciting happened, though we do see the French found the city of Bordeaux in the ruins of Burdigala:

One final note before I end it: the barb horde terrorizing Rome has now entered Greek territory, and their objective seems to be Byzantion (Constantinople/Istanbul), but the Greek army was more prepared than the Roman army, and the barbs have been cut to shreds, with only two units left.

All right, that will do for this update. In the next update(s), we'll see the rest of the European powers arrive, and we'll see if the Romans can survive the rise of their neighbors. Stay tuned!

fantastic update!

At least someone defeated the Barbs. I want to see what will happen once Russia spawns and flips the Greek cities.

i guess russia will get alot of hoplites

Welcome back, civvers!

When we last left off, the Spanish and French arrived, and the Romans lost their final city outside of Italy in the process. Fortunately, the barbarians that had been terrorizing them for so long finally were stopped when they launched a (so far) failed offensive into Greek lands. Though there are still a couple of barbs left, unless something horrible happens, Europe is finally free of them.

We start off today with turn 170 in Rome. Trying to rebuild after the barbs nearly destroyed their nation, the Romans have re-founded the city of Spalatum in 790 A.D:

Those crossbowmen to the NW better hurry up and defend it, just in case those remaining barbs decide to head back towards them.

Turn 171: Nothing, despite two wars going on. The Punic War is understandable, there is the Mediterranean between Rome and Carthage, but the second war between Persia and Babylon is going nowhere. No combat at all. I think these guys forgot they're at war. :hammer2:

Turn 172: Two new cities this turn. First off, the Babylonians have settled Khalpe in Anatolia:
7pf2.png

And the Indians have settled Cochin near India's southern tip:

Turn 173: The British are coming! The British are coming! :woohoo:

Turn 174: The British found their capital, London:
21vs.png

Note that the Celtic city of Inbhir Nis is still Celtic. When the Brits flip it, there will be no more Celts.

Turn 175: For the first time, I meet the nation of... Rome!?
cjbn.png

The really weird thing? I met him when my galley came across one of his triremes. In INDONESIA.

Man, that ship's been on an adventure! I guess we know what nation is circumnavigating first.

Anyways, we finally see the Celts disappear, as the Brits have annexed Inverness:

Also, the Mayans have founded Chicken Pizza :yumyum: in the Yucatan:

Turn 176: The Germanic people have united to form a single nation, the Holy Roman Empire, and have founded their capital of Berlin:

Finally for this update, the Persians have Founded the city of Artacoana:

And that's it for this update! Next time, we'll see the Russians (and possibly the Dutch) arrive on the world stage, and see if anything happens in the war between Persia and Babylon. Stay tuned!

Hmmm....I just started reading this and I love the idea. I'll definitely keep reading this. Great so far. Haven't seen anything too crazy, but I guess we'll see:goodjob:

Sorry, but my version doesn't have the Seljuks. I have Vanilla RFC, the version that came out of the game's case. I'm a fan of original stuff, what can I say?

oh... so your saying that you're playing a version of rfc where if as the arabs i conquer all of europe, north africa, and mesopotamia i DON'T have a giant horde kill me five turns later? that sounds awesome!

I didn't say I didn't have the Turks in my version. I just said I didn't have the Seljuk Turks. When I'm playing as the Arabs and the Ottomans come, they have a tendency to kick my butt if I'm not prepared.

still, the empire would last longer than in DoC

NOT THE RUSSIANS! Wait, communist, capitalist, or tsarist russia?

are you refering to my question or the sputnik quote in my sig?

if its my sig, by that logic i'm also pony chancellor with pudding on my head and william shakespeare :D

please edit instead of double posting, and you said Communist, capitalist or tsarist Russia. I choose commie.

okay i gotcha bro,oh and i choose Tsarcapunism :D
