Interesting Times - The AI Side of RFC

And we return to the most epic tale of AI idiocy ever to be created (in the last few days)!

When we last left off, the barbarians wound up blowing Pagan, Shush, and Burdigala out of existence, while Ethiopia's Bonga suffered the same fate at the hands of either the natives or Egyptians. It is time to see how the rest of the world faces against the might of the barbarian hordes!

Turn 147: Nothing happens but movement here, but the stage is set for next few turns, as Lutetia (modern Paris) is about to be attacked by barbs (and is only defended by a single warrior), while at least ten more barbs are poised to attack Roman held Lugdunum. Meanwhile, the Persian siege of Babylonian Ninua continues, though the Persians have yet to launch a direct attack on the city. Meanwhile the Egyptian cities of Per-Wadjet and Kumma are about to come under attack by barbs. Hold on to your seat, this could be a wild ride!

Turn 148: ...and there go the Celts (from Gaul at least):
3rk8.png

I don't think I've ever had a game where the barbs did more damage to the Celts than the Romans did, as the Romans usually have all of the Celtic cities in Gaul before the hordes begin arriving en masse. Now we'll see how long Lugdunum can last, especially considering the barbs are invading other areas in Rome, as well (just in much smaller numbers).

Meanwhile, in Egypt, Per-Wadjet has not yet been attacked, and Kumma barely held off the barbs attacking it. Now, however, barbs lay at the gates of every Egyptian city except the capital. This could be very bad for them. As for Ninua, Persia continues to besiege the city.

Turn 149: We welcome a new nation to the world. Say hello, Ragnar!
uqz.png

We now have our first European nation to arrive since the Romans (the Celts, being a minor civ, don't count).

Meanwhile, on the Egyptian front:
agso.png

Ay yay yay! We've got another city lost to the barbs! At least they decided to keep it this time. I'm not sure I could take another city razing.

Turn 150: Back to Egypt:
rri.png

:( Oh, man. Egypt lost Kumma, too? This game is turning into a catastrophe. In the last two updates, barbs and natives captured six cities, and razed five of them to the ground. Keep in mind that this is before most nations have spawned yet, and that the last two updates have together held less than ten turns between them. Both Egypt and Ethiopia have had their size cut in half, and the Celts are now exiled to Scotland.

On the brighter side, the Romans have decided to found a new city - Vindobona:
pkao.png

Better get someone to defend it quickly, Rome! We've seen what happens to cities that are lightly defended - repeatedly.

Turn 151: The Persian's siege of Ninua has failed miserably, as all of their soldiers now lie dead at the gates of the city. I don't think I have ever seen the Persians perform this poorly before. :shake:

Turn 152: Uh oh. This could be the end for Ethiopia:
ymbh.png

Note that only two of those five units in Aksum can actually defend. If those two Impis both score a victory in the IBT, Ethiopia is finished.

Less interesting, but still notable - the Chinese have founded Baotou to the west of Beijing:
x7gx.png

I've noticed that because they have very few enemies around them, India and China tend to play very boringly. The only thing interesting to happen to India is when they collapse, and the only thing interesting with China is their feud with the Mongols. Too bad, really.

Turn 153: Egypt and Ethiopia both avoided the worst. Egypt managed to retake Per-Wadjet from the barbs, though Kumma is lost forever. Meanwhile, the crippled Ethiopians have managed to survive another turn. However, this turn has something of (hopefully) tremendous importance coming out of the Middle East:

Arabs.

I am going to end this update here. I hope you enjoyed this update as much as I did, and I'll see you next time!

I have never seen Barbs destroying so many cities.

i have... i've also seen highly upgraded tanks ([pissed]) lose to muskets (still better than civ 3 rng by 5 miles planets solar systems)

Well, it's obvious that those muskets are just upgraded spearmen, so they still have all of the experience necessary to kill tanks. :D

EDIT::lmao:

And we return!

When we left off, the barbarians continued their romp of the Old World, destroying Lutetia and Kumma, and capturing Per-Wadjet (though the Egyptians managed to retake Per_Wadjet, Kumma is lost for good). Also, the Vikings arrived to the world, and the Arabs first spawned. What will happen today? Read on to find out!

Turn 154: Two city foundings have occurred here. First is the Viking city of Tärnaby:
tjlx.png

...and more importantly, the Arabs have founded their capital, Makkah (Mecca):
u1a9.png

With this, the Arabs have also founded the religion of Islam. About current religion spread, China and India are predictable, with China mostly following Confucianism, with some Taoism thrown in there, while India is mostly Hindu, with some Buddhism thrown in there for good measure. As for Japan, Kyoto and Korea are Taoist, but the rest of Japan is Buddhist. Interestingly enough, Islam is already in both Egypt and Carthage, despite having only existed for one turn. Judaism is also in Egypt and Carthage, but Christianity hasn't really spread anywhere.

On to turn 155, the Arabs have risen, indeed, having convinced independent Jerusalem to join Arabia (becoming Al-Quds), as well as Babylonian Sur (now As-Sur):
2kf6.png

However, as they had just lost Sur to the Arabs, the Babylonians didn't take kindly to this intrusion:
avqa.png

If there's one good thing about this, at least Persia has an ally now. Based on the way they have been performing, they could get all of the help they can get.

Turn 156: A few things happened here. First off, India seems to have learned the lesson about barbarians:
0cd2.png

 Remember how Sana'a was destroyed after existing for just one turn? Lhasa didn't even last that long, being taken by the Indians on the same turn as it arrived!

Also, the Persians have apparently decided to give up expansion by conquest, and have settled the town of Aspadana:
wsy.png

Unfortunately, we do have some very bad news for this turn: the first of the great plagues has finally arrived. It's spread fast, too - in one turn, it's infected all of Greece, most of India, and one city in Egypt. I'll make sure to keep track of it.

Turn 157: The plague continues to spread, having reached all of India (except for Lhasa) and infecting the Egyptian capital, Niwt-Rst. Also, the barbarians north of Rome have launched the next big offensive, with their current target being Vindobona:
fynq.png

...yeah, that's a lot of barbs...

Turn 158: And the barbs strike again...
xfw.png

 That's seven cities lost (including six razed) to the barbs in the last three updates. And by the look of things, the barbs aren't through with Rome just yet, as they have a lot of men left to attack them with. With most of the barbs now in modern-day Germany, which still wont spawn for a while, the possibility exists that the barbs will overwhelm Rome without input from the European nations soon to come.

Fortunately, we have better news: Out of the jungles of Southeast Asia, the Khmer have arrived to the world, and have Founded their capital of Angkor:
et1s.png

Meanwhile, the Arabs have settled Ar-Riyad, out in the middle of the Arabian desert:
u6v6.png

I don't think I've ever seen the Arabs settle there before. In fact, I don't think I've seen anyone settle there before.

And with this, I'll end this update. Next time, we'll see how the Romans handle the swarms of barbarians about to strike the core of their empire, we'll see if the Arabs can expand any more into Babylonian territory, and we'll find out how far the plague spreads. Plus, we'll get our first look into the rise of the European nations. Good luck and I'll see you all next time!

another fantastic update from CFCoasters :goodjob:

but praets are better:D!(overpowered in fact)

lol!

its funny because a human would know to have more praets then that during the great barb invasion of rome (if they didn't get the great wall), i was laughing at AI stupidity :)

The Arabs seem to do well.....compared to the rest European and Middle Eastern nations that are conquered by Barbarian hordes.

The Arabs seem to do well.....compared to the rest European and Middle Eastern nations that are conquered by Barbarian hordes.

Other than Persia, the middle eastern area has largely done okay against the barbarian hordes (not counting the unfortunate case of Sana'a). Europe has been hit the hardest by the hordes. Egypt, meanwhile has had a harder time with those native Impis (not to mention Ethiopia, who barely avoided losing their last city to Impis a couple turns ago). Egypt actually dodged a bullet there. After losing Per-Wadjet to the barbs and Kumma to the Impis, their stability went down to collapsing for a couple of turns, but went up to unstable when they recaptured Per-Wadjet. They barely avoided becoming our first nation to go into civil war.

raise your hand if your still moarning(;) see wut i did thar) sana'a

*hand raises*

And we are back to the ultimate tale of AI stupidity!

When we last left off, two new nations arrived: the Vikings arrived out of Scandinavia, and the Arab people united in Islam and have begun spreading throughout the Middle East. Also, the first great plague began and the barbarians torched yet another city, with the victim this time being Rome in Vindobona.

We begin with an event for Japan, as I meet the leader of the Khmer for the first time due to my galley running into one of theirs off the coast of the Philippines. Sorry, no picture, as I forgot to take one.

On to turn 160, and we have a trio of city foundings. First off, the Arabs settled the city of Aden, a few miles to the east of the ruins of Sana'a:
k1v.png

Next, the Vikings have settled the city of Oslo in Norway:
k7f.png

And finally, the Greeks have settled Tanais in... the Ukraine?
ftb3.png

But despite all of the city foundings going on, the barbarians proved that there is plenty of destruction going on, too. To see my point, you only need to see this picture:
k6x2.png

That's right, Egypt's capital, Niwt-Rst, has fallen to the barbarians. It's only a matter of time for them, now.
Rome is faring a little better, managing to hold off the barbs so far, but there are barbs in Italy itself now, and the main horde has yet to strike.

Turn 161: This may be the Ancient World's darkest hour. The Egyptian's capital has been lost to the barbarian hordes, Persia has failed miserably in all attempts at expansion, Babylon is fighting a losing fight against the new and energetic Arabs, the Celts have been exiled to Scotland, and Rome is under intense attack against the barbarians, with Roma itself under siege:
220v.png

And worst off of all, the Ethiopians. Broke, unable to pay the mercenaries defending the nation from the natives, the country now has a single archer unit to defend the entire nation. If he dies, Ethiopia dies.

The only bright spot in this situation comes from the Khmer in SE Asia, who continue to expand, settling Hanoi in Vietnam:
seh9.png

Despite this, it is clearly a bleak time in the history of the world.

Turn 162: And another city falls...
zwje.png

Everything burns...

Turn 163: And it finally ends:
g3wk.png

So long, Egypt and Ethiopia. At least you had the honor of entertaining us while you existed. May the barbarians that defeated you have mercy on your people. May you suffer no more.

One last thing from this update. The year is 720 A.D. As two nations fall, one rises up. And as for now, we welcome the nation of...
sdo.png

Spain.

As the age of the European kingdoms begin, I have decided to end this update here. The next update will be an overview of what the world has gone through since I started. See you next time, and hope that a barbarian doesn't defeat you as well.

ooo spain spawns... I LOVE YOU IZZY!!! did i type that out loud?
