I've known for years. Since I started using the internet. I was 7.

I've been on the net since 95 or so, and have never used IE on my own pc except on rare occasions.

I have one thing to say to that: duurh. I think its common knowledge by now that IE sucks.

In truth, IE is perfectly ok as a web browser. FF and Opera are just more customizable and better at protecting stupid people from themselves.

If IE Sucks. Why havent you made the switch to Firefox!? :p

My mom says I.E. is more secure than Firefox, because "Microsoft made it." And she constantly undoes the security settings I set on her IE, because "it slows the banking site down."
This is the same mother who installed spyware on her computer and called Spybot Search and Destroy "junk."
Where she gets the idea she's a computer expert, I don't know. :scared:

IE lagged long behind the others in adding many features. But the worst problem with it has long been that it in and of itself is one of Windows biggest security holes. I think Outlook is even worse in that respect, so use Thunderbird as well.

I've always used webmail. But mom uses outlook, so I'll put Thunderbird on her computer and switch to it when she's not in the house. :-P

I used IE for about 3 years (due to netscape going all to hell). During that time, I never once got a virus, spyware, adware, or any of that crap. I don't even use a virus scanner on a regular basis (they are too intrusive, so I only use it maybe every 6 months or so when my PC decides to slow down for no reason, or on individual files that look a bit dodgy).

When I hear people moaning about IE, or pointing to its so-called security holes, I have to wonder how much porn or illegal copyrighted material they download. Cos obviously, the more crap you d/l, the more likely you are to get a virus. By far the easiest way to propagate viruses is through torrents and porn.

Since I switched to FF, when I got my new computer, the only malware I got was from a bad torrent, I was trying to download something legal and it turned out to be spyware I couldn't get rid of.

My mom refused to use Netscape when we shared a computer. (I used Netscape, to keep our bookmarks and homepage seperate.) And we kept getting viruses. Because mom would install these stupid screensavers, or click on dodgy popups. Sheesh, I was 9 and I knew better than her. When she got her new one and I took the old one, I used solely Netscape, and never got a virus. Except once when I forgot my "scan-before-installation" rule. I couldn't use Firefox, cos it was too slow.

When I got my new one, I realized Netscape no longer updated. So I switched to Firefox.

My computer is running all night, so I set up the virus/spyware scan to run at night, when I'm (usually!) not using it.

I don't find IE bad (well 7 and 8, I can't live without tabs anymore). I just prefer Firefox and Opera.

IE was so much better than Netscape when it was stuck in 4.x

Vista added Protected Mode to IE, which helps, but require UAC, IIRC.

real men use lynx

YEAH THAT"S RIGHT

You can't get malware from just downloading a torrent. You must install the malware yourself after it's downloaded.

I know. I opened it, thinking it was legal file. And since it was spyware, the virus scanner didn't get it.

It was Winfixer. Wikipedia it.
