This... this "special building", this "Internet".
Have anyone EVER found it useful?
I sure haven't.

I mean help me here.
i'm just an Noble player atm, but it seems I will need it even less on more difficult games?

Can it be somehow useful? Have anyone ever saved the day by building Internet?
And I mean Internet in CIV4, not in real life.
:confused::rolleyes:

There are plenty of threads showing its usefulness. The search function is there for a reason...

As you go deeper into difficulty settings, the AI will tech pretty fast (they get discounts) so getting whatever tech 2 AIs know for free can be a life saver.

I tried the search but didn't find any answers.
I mean i usually play on epic, this project costs, what? 3500 hammers?
not sure, maybe something like that and on marathon what? 7000 hammers?
I mean, you just can trade other techs usually for those you need?

1. If you go military, can stop researching after beelining and building the Internet and concentrate on building units: workshop over all cottages and see the hammers come in!
2. Even if going space, you can beeline the engine and work on that and count on the AI to get the other useful techs.

I think the Internet can easily get 5-10 techs on higher levels if beelined, which is a steal at the given price.

The conditions for Internet usefulness is that there are at least 2 AIs that are fairly advanced, which is more likely on large maps and high levels.

Beeline engine and hope for the best eh?
If that works, it might be useful...
have you ever done this?

Well i stop my research always in war (well most times at least), so yeah, but in this case it is maybe too late... I mean Internet is in already... dunno.

The condions you say are met everytime I play... just stil haven't found internet useful, ever.
:D

The best late game build by far. If you're not in a situation where one AI is dominating everything and running away in techs, it pretty much guarantees you tech parity at 0% slider while you rushbuild your way to domination.

Yes, we heard. It is useful once you are playing on a real difficulty.

On noble difficulty it isnt that great indeed since the AI teach to slow. But lets say you going for space race on empeor difficulty. You and 2-3 other AI are about even in teach they are even abit better. You beeline compuer and get the internet. First thing you get like 5-10 teaches backfilled that you havent got before. Great for some further trading around to AI that dont have them and maybe some nice new things. But more importantly. You can now beeline one of the ways to space race. Say you for fusion and let the AI reaserch the other path and when they do you get the teaches for free. Sure otherwise you could have traded for it but than they would have it to and could build there space ship aswell. With the interent you can keep your teaches and still get theres allowing you to most likely send a space ship out before them.

I used it as recently as Mad's OCC earth 18 civ game to good avail (>20000 beakers in techs (more because epic speed), a lot of which were useful).

Denying it from the AI and picking the genetics then fusion line virtually guarantees you'll beat the AI to space. Watch those culture attempts though.

The good thing with going for space instead of culture you got tons of great production cities that can be converted into building ::nuke::ar15::)

I'm only a noble player myself, and thus the internet seems somewhat redundant. To be honest, I can only imagine the usefulness of the internet increasing as you go up in difficulty level; faster AI tech rate means greater chance of being behind in techs., and therefore gaining advantage from t'internet.

Edit: Orzio -> Blow the hell out of santa with nukes? I don't get it! ;)

The internet is extremely valuable when you have two AIs either at tech aprity or better, or a strong AI and their weak vassal that they gave techs to. Generally, the higher the difficulty the more impact it has.

In my signature, many of the RPC games used the internet to great value, the most recent being the Jean -Luc Picard game.

Was suppose to mean nuke there cultural cities but the message faild:)

:nuke::ar15::band:

Thats better and more clear:)

Hehe, after I used the ;) in my post, I realised the Crimbo emoticons are still in use :p

I rarely grab it but it has been useful. Recently I had a game where I had maintained tech parity for most of the game but started falling behind late game. Beelined Internet and let the other AI's finish off the tech tree while my superior production hammered out the spaceship parts faster than them.

The internet states its a world project and is under the same category in Civilopedia as Team projects.

Does this mean that once you build it, every civ gets its benefit?

So once the Internet is built getting all the techs isn't just a one-shot deal, correct? So as the other civs are researching techs you don't have, you automatically get those once they are done the research?

^only manhattan is for everyone, but you can't capture projects, so if you build the internet it's yours forever.

Actually what I meant to ask was, say I build the Internet. Once I complete it, I get say, 5 techs I didn't have already from 4 different Civs. A few turns later, once Civ finishes research a new Tech. Do I automatically get that one as well because I have the Internet?

I guess where I am getting at does building the Internet allow me to shut down my research for the rest of the game and let the other civs research for me? I mean, I can see this not being useful at Noble (where I am) but higher levels, probably one of the more important builds.
