After regrouping from the Battle of Tombouctu, American forces began the siege of Gao, the occupied Songhai capital.
With fairly little Turkish resistance, American forces liberated the city. The Songhai people cheered, as they could see the Turkish occupation coming to an end.
Further north, the Russian city of St. Petersburg was also liberated.
After liberating Gao, the American army moved south toward the city of Jenne. But there was a sizable Turkish force defending the city. Although suffering some minor losses, American forces won the battle and destroyed most of what remained of the Turkish army in the area.
American forces continued moving south and, in a historic victory, defeated the remaining Ottoman ground forces and captured Inebolu.
Meanwhile, American forces began the attack on Strasbourg, the capital of the territory which the US had once sold to Songhai. After a fairly sort battle, the city was liberated.
The American ambassador to the Songhai assured them the territory would be returned to Songhai control "free of charge, because the deal is still in place", said the ambassador.
And now, American forces stood ready to liberate Russia and end Turkish presence in the north once and for all.
