Into The Future

Government Changes

Over a long time, the United States acquired many different territories through wars. For many years the US government had allowed most of these territories alot of self-government. But during the early 2170s, more and more in the US government began feeling that the United States needed to consolidate power over all the territories it had conquered.

Finally, beginning in 2174, the President began trying to pass legislation that would establish firm government control over conquered territories. At first, the American Congress rejected the legislation. But after several more tries, it finally passed, and during the late summer and fall of 2175, the government systematically dismantled the local governments of all conquered territories and established them to be more "American", just like normal American territories.

Those in the government who had not supported the idea feared how the conquered people would react to such changes. Suprisingly, there was no resistance to the new laws and no one of other nationalities seemed to mind losing their self-governance. It seemed that the entire populace had total confidence that the government of the United States would always protect freedom for all.

About a year into the new law, a survey showed that people everywhere in American territories were happier with the government than ever before.

Still, the US continued to face the never-ending challenge of trying to maintain freedom from both domestic and foreign threats.

Bribing people with entertainment and luxuries from conquered territory is always great for keeping them happy.

I'm still here :crazyeye: just been really busy, great update as always :goodjob:

I need to update this again, but I just got BNW and I've been playing the daylights out of it. I need to make a version of this game for BNW to see if I could spread freedom around the world peacefully.

Thanks. :)

Nope, I haven't. I've been planning to do another one, just haven't gotten it done yet. That seems to be the real story of this thread.

I understand if continuing this story is painful using vanilla mechanics when you have BNW available. I just hope you do a story like this w/ BNW, it would be entertaining.

You mean a futuristic style story, like this one? Possibly. I have been thinking that the next game I start on BNW, I think I'm just going to write up a history about it as I play it, without putting it on the forum yet. Then, if it turns out to be a good story, I'll probably do a story with it here, and do any revisions that are necessary to make it better.

Just a couple of screenshots before(hopefully) an update tonight: I finally got Washington to 50 population. I believe this is the first time I've ever done that.

Trouble With Geneva

For years, as the United States grew and the American military grew in power and number, the small nation of Geneva was crucial to the US because of it's vast aluminum supply, which was commonly used in the building of military vehicles and aircraft. For years, Geneva had supported the US and continued to provide aluminum for the American military. But over time, Geneva grew tired of the American alliance, and finally, in the late 2180s, began cancelling aluminum shipments and severing the alliance with the US. No one knows the exact reason as to why Geneva no longer wanted to support the US.

Division In The Government

Some in the US government were outraged at Geneva's actions. Some of the more radical in the government even called for an invasion of Geneva to secure the aluminum. Incredibly enough, the President was among those who wished to use force. With some success, the pro-war senators(those who wanted to invade) tried to persuade others to join their cause by bringing attention to how much the American military would be compromised by the lack of aluminum, and how it would make the US vulnerable. The arguments of the pro-war side made sense to many in the government, and some began thinking it would be a "necessary evil". Finally, the President stunned the world by proposing a declaration of war against Geneva.

The Decision

With about half of the American Senate supporting the invasion, it looked as if the the US might actually invade Geneva. Finally, the day for the vote came. But one noble Senator addressed a speech to the Senate directly before the vote: "My fellow senators, listen to me. Are you, representatives of this great nation, really willing to invade a peaceful country merely because they no longer want to be our ally? This reasoning betrays the very principles that we stand for. Our armed forces have fought all over the world to protect other nation's rights to make their own decisions. And now, some of you wish to invade Geneva because they made a decision that you do not agree with. We are becoming like those we condemn. And if we are like them, then what do we need resources to protect? We would be using stolen resources to protect the very kind of nation that would invade and take another nation's freedom, which we will be if we go through with this idea. And do not think that this is a 'necessary evil'. Our strength does not come from resources or technology. Our strength comes when we fight to protect freedom, whether it be ours, or someone else's. And if one of our enemies try to take advantage of our supposed weakness, then we will rely upon the strength that we have always relied upon. We will fight to protect freedom. And if we are fighting for freedom, we cannot fail."

After hearing this speech, all but the most radical pro-war senators changed their minds. Nearly every senator voted no, and the proposed declaration of war was voted down. The President himself changed his mind, and issued a formal apology to Geneva for even proposing such a thing.

Americans had to continue to ever be vigilant in order that the United States not become the very thing that it considered to be evil.

Great update :goodjob:

You should build some workers and make some farms on those un-used tiles around the big three.

Thanks, and most of those tiles around "The Big Three" do have farms on them. There's just some kind of graphical glitch that makes it appear as if there's nothing there.

Wha a moving speech!

Thanks. I tried to put alot of thought into that speech. :)

It's really up to you. If I were in your place, I might take Moscow, but that would probably be all. If Russia loses to Rome then they probably won't be much of a threat to you anymore. So, you could just leave them alone after taking Moscow. But that's probably just the way I would do it. It's your game, so play however you want.
