IOT Developmental Thread

And the detail's the problem. It makes a whole bunch of tiny little islands, half of which I'd erase, the other half I'd have to re-arrange into provincial clusters.

So if I erase the useless islands, group the rest and make the map easier to colour you'll be fine with it?

Or use some sort of layers system? You would still need to group but it would make colouring easy.

May I nominate this map.

It's the Classic IOT map edited to remove pesky islands, with quite a few provinces split or merged. Offshore islands are connected to the mainland by a small line so that any province can be coloured with one click.

The problem with that map is how small some of the provinces are. In MP things where placed in provinces. It also lacks regions.
That said it is an awesome map :goodjob:

I'm king of dissapointed that you used a lot of present day political boundries: I was hoping to have a renewed Kingdom of Prussia.

You can always resize the map. That, or Thorvald can merge/enlarge provinces as he see fit.

It also lacks regions.

Not anymore.

Good enough?

I like it. :)

Small enough that it doesn't take up the whole screen; detailed enough that it should invite a lot of players.

Regional boundaries aren't really an issue, since they were used for military mechanics I'm not adopting.

How dare you. You grouped Virginia WITH THE DAMNYANKEES!

This map gets my approval if VA is switched to be in with the rest of Dixie.

Not that my approval really matters but LOOK OVER THERE!

You merged us superior Yankees with the hicks down in Virginia. I don't like it either. :p

EDIT: Also, a part of Virginia IS in dixie already. The small western strip.

When can we expect the game to start?

Once I've tabled the rules and finished scripting spies, which requires that I get some input on the other topics.

Could start as early as a couple of days.

Espionage has now been coded using the base-60-per-cent odds mentioned earlier. It's a little rough around the edges, but the script plays out properly enough to determine victors and casualties so I'm not too concerned. Haven't looked at automating SDI, but that's straightforward enough to do quickly by hand.

I can upload the file if anyone with Python wants to review it; I'll warn you ahead of time, though, documentation's grossly lacking and internal error-checking is nonexistant.

Unless anyone has any further crucial input, I think I'm ready to package this all together.

I second using the IOT7 map.

Problem with the IOT7/Victoria2 map is it's way too big, with too many provinces, plus all the pesky coastlines that Thorvald complained about.

Large, more detailed maps aren't necessarily better if it becomes too unwieldly for the GM and the players to handle.

Plus, I can't view the other maps on my phone.
