IOT Developmental Thread

i do not understand why combat has to be complex. just rip off tanicus combat, add something for the number of troops, and how well the defending. troops are dug in.

(on the troops number, they are never to exceed 10% of the total population for any reason. in peacetime it is usually 5% or lower.)

You see, now, I think what you are suggesting here is considerably more complex than what I have in mind.

its only two additional numbers. the person would be required to post their official population upon completion of the first wave of claims. and to calculate the bonuses for the number they have to post how many soldiers they send out of their total.

say Byzantium attacks New Jersey with 500,000 out if 600,000 troops. it could be done, but the other countries would just walk in nearly unopposed.

And population growth, migration, etc, etc? Also, what's this population going to be based on - what Mathalamus made up, or official CIA Factbook stats?

and to calculate the bonuses for the number they have to post how many soldiers they send out of their total.

Something like this could work.

CIA numbers of course. and assume a flat 1% population growth per year, regardless of the area.

Why? We don't always play as modern era in modern setting. the game may have deviated a long long way from reality.

and I'm sick of the Earth map, why don't we make a theme based simple mini IOT, colonizing a foreign planet, fantasy map

Effort required to make the map I guess :/

a fantasy map would be extremely difficult tp out in provinces. i perfer the earth map. infinite replayability.

My fantasy one has started. limited spots

@Dommy: I disagree, battlers are not decided by the leader of a country strategies are. Thats why it should be armies that move by orders of the leader and battles are decided by either luck or numbers.
@Tails:
@Math: RNG Sucked. If you don't want to take the time to give orders, then maybe get an ally or the GM (Automate orders) for you.

edit: x-post due to me not realizing there was a new page.
@Nemid: why don't you use just use a massive blank hex tile set and create your own map. But your right, I am sick of the earth map as well.

RNGs suck, fine i can understand that, but there is no other easy to do viable way of combat.

Have several factors to influence the result. Make RNG only a small part.

Tech*Infra*Stability*RNG etc..

Personally, I don't have too much of an issue with a RNG. It may not be ideal, but it is fast and gives a definitive, relaible, objective result. Maybe if we could make people have to come up with roleplay to go along with the results. If the under-dog keeps winning, then they have to come up with a reason for defeating a better force. That shouldn't be too hard, one just has to look at Alexander, American Patriots, the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the Viet-Cong, or any other number of outnumbered, out-gunned forces throughout history.

And if their explanation sucks, we swap results!
