Iran to issue badges to Jews and Christians

Not at all. Let's not forget that the largest factor in Iran's getting a nuke - either the people who will stop them (if not us), or the people they will bully - are Jews.

Obviously, then, the nuclear arms race and discrimination/hatred of religious minorities are, in this case, the same damn thing. The minority religion in the region isn't going to like it when their enemy, on top of mimicking Nazi Germany, has a nuclear bomb.

You forget that Israel having nukes is part of the reason Iran is rushing to get nukes.

I wasn't making a judgment about whether Israel, or even Iran, should have nukes.

I was just saying that it is absurd to claim that anti-Jewish actions in Iran would be unimportant in the Iranian nuclear issue, when the people most concerned about Iran getting nukes are Jews. Not like any of this matters, since it's all untrue. But let's not forget that Israel, and the pro-Israeli press (or just any press), are always quick to cite Ahmadinejad's desire to crush Israel when his seeking nuclear weapons comes up.

By the way, I'm proud to say that I spelled Ahmadinejad correctly on the first try. :D

Oops sorry  didn't notice. You even bolded the same sentence! :crazyeye:

Good for you! Now let's see if you can do Mohammar Khadaffi! :)

Oh, no one needs to spell his name. That guy is, like, so 1990s! (Or was Lockerbie in the 80s?)

EDIT: Also, he's insane. Not like "dangerous to world peace" insane - more like "totally loopy and fit for satire" insane. And we're not even talking about a blend, like Kim Jong Il. Just flat-out wacky.

Do they give badge to gay people, deaf people, blind people, mute people

If it's like Nazi Germany they don't give those groups badges; they kill them. The Nazi's reasoned that if you were living without existence (Leben ohne dasein) then you didn't deserve to live and promptly proceeded to exterminate many people with disabilities.

As pointed out by several others, while unpleasant and discomfiting, making certain religious groups wear badges is hardly an excuse for war.

Something occurred to me. What about foreigners in Iran? Will they have to wear badges?

First, I want to go on record as saying this Godwin's law stuff is just plain dumb (sorry Erik, but that's how I feel). There are many times that references to Nazism and their practices are legitimate. To declare Godwin's Law at the first hint of Nazi references just makes no sense.

Second, this is just more and more proof that we cannot let this whackjob have nuclear weaponry. I cannot believe there is anyone out there who thinks he won't use them against Israel the first chance he gets.

Me too. Screw Godwins law.

I cant help but notice how 9-11 was used just like the burning of the Richstag, and how quickly Bush is becoming an unquestioned leader just like Hitler.

Bleh blah blah... lets call everyone we disagree with nazis! Then we can argue all we want and get nowehere.

On-topic, I want a credible source before I believe this.

Oh well, he's Britain's problem now. You Brits really ought to review your peerage system.

Tomorrow's Globe and Mail should be a good read.

Got an online subscription you'd be willing to share? I'm in New Hampshire, and have been killing for something other than the New Hampshire Union Leader...

So is this real or made up?
If it is real i would be very surprised, and yes I am more supportive of Iran than most around here (if you have read any of my posts youd know this).
If it is real, well its a sad initement on Iran and another stupid move by them, that would lessen my support for them.
On the other hand, from what I have read Iran has one of the largest Jewish populations in the ME outside of Israel (obviously) and they are treated not very differently to Iranians, I believe there is 25 000 strong Jewish communtiy in Iran. They are not persecuted at all and live free and happy lives so it makes me sceptical as to whether this news is real or made up.

Oh and if Iran did get a nuke, they would not use one,i dont believe they would even admit to having one as they have a lot of pride and after saying to every country that there nuclear research is for peaceful purposes it would look to bad if they came out and said they where lying all along.

Also scholars a lot more learned then you or I believe if they had one they would not use or or transfer one to terror groups.

It looks like the National Post got it wrong.

Regarding Israel - You can't get a lot more antiSemitic than banning Jews from high office, denying the Holocaust and calling for the extinction of the "Zionist state."

But the point isn't whether Iran is antiSemitic or not... the point is the evolution of stories such as this one in the pre-war period, to the point that otherwise intelligent people can be conned into believing that false stories, deliberately disseminated by pro-war shucksters, are "commonly known facts." Like the idea that Iran will have a bomb in 5 years if we don't stop them now. Or the idea that there is even a shred of proof that they HAVE a bomb program.

The other effect, of course, is that the President's base will continue as if the story wasn't debunked at all.

How about actually killing Jews? That isn't more anti-semitic then simply rough treatment?

National post??!?! Must be a joke.

Iran is not a trustworthy nation and they should get severe sanctions imo, but this article is just plain propaganda.

And your allegations that liberals support Iran and want them to have nukes are as unrelated as they are empty of consistency.

Nothing will be done, because if anything is, the amount of whining and protest will be huge. So the people of Iran will have to live in Nazi Germany:Retake until people realize war is the answer to the Iran question.

already been debunked. The story was false. The OP should edit his first post to reflect this.

No, not your bad, the OP needs to change his first post and end his alarmist tabloid pandering.

Same basic story was printed all over the net this morning. AP, Yahoo, etc... I'd hardly call quoting articles from those sites "alarmist tabloid pandering".

Whats with "the OP"??
Opening post. I hope that is what you were referring too.

It is good that this is a false story. Still living in Iran, you do not have religious freedom.

From the people? Much of Iran is in poverty and are very religious, this is a welcome change from the Oil princes. However this popularity is greatly exploited. I see so many parallels to Nazi Germany that it's not even funny.

From OTers? Because they are whiny liberals who take any chance to make fun of America (or President Bush), even if this means supporting Iran, Venezuela, or even terrorists. Many people will attempt to show that Iran is somehow the "underdog" here, and that America is an evil big bad wolf trying to coerce this little weak nation into doing its will so we can steal their oil, however, amidst these allegations, take that with a grain of salt. An of course, they are going to ignore this thread indefinitely.

IN YOUR FACE GARRIC.
