Iranian army to be equipped with S-400

Without China or Russia what would be the point? May very well not like them, but to deny they warrent a seat is purile.

Are they not the worlds second and third largest mill spenders?

They only warrant a seat because of nukes. Their mills barely feed their own people (China falls short). We're not giving a seat to Pakistan, are we? So nuke does not = seat, sorry. Democracy and/or free press count for something too. Perhaps we could give a single seat to a China/Cuba/Russia/N. Korea/Pakistan delegation? No, I didn't think so.

No the second and third largest amies on earth deserve the second and third sec council seats. Not about politics but about real politic.

Armies shouldn't count but total pop should determine how many seats!

The council seats aren't based on population or militaries... The seats were given to the victors in WW II, I thought everyone knew this?

Dude, I've heard from sources that these missiles can lock onto a target the size of a subatomic particle, have a range of over 40-thousand miles (if the 1 in 570-trillion chance it misses, it circles around the world and has another go), plus they can warp the space-time contiuum enroute to their target, effectively attacking at a velocity faster than lightspeed.

What's worse, is that the Russians are cheaply manufacturing them by the millions, and Iran plans to have at least one launcher setup per each square acre of their land by the end of 2007.

 best post ever

Lotus gets applause and a cookie for that post :D Thank you! For a second there I thought you were George2816.

Have you heard of the Phalanx defensive system onboard most ships. It consists of one or more turrent guns that shoot out tens of thousands of rounds a minute

I've seen this... Unbelievable... if this is on our aircraft, no worries... no worries.

Still, if this is true, sad to hear (though about time) someone has anti-stealth tech of any kind... and more sad it's in enemy hands, though smart move by Russia (hey, gotta test it live for true results).

The phalanx sucks ass. It's more of a last resort weapon when all your jamming and anti-missile weapons fail. The only thing it can destroy is seagulls.

You sir, have not a friggin clue in the world.

Are you honestly saying that US Phalanx CIWS is a decent and adequate terminal point defense? It's track record is DISASTROUS!

The RAM is another matter however.

The Phalanx CIWS is better than nothing, especially when you have multiple systems from several ships in close formation firing co-operatively. I wouldn't want to rely on it to save my life, but the system can make positive impact depending on what missile is attacking.

the blindfire radar the british army uses with the rapier anti air missile system has detected a b2 bomber and scored a simulated hit on it, not really going to be a problem i doubt we would sell anything to iran anymore and theres still an eu embargo on arms sales to china

err, its not as simple as that. There are many factors that must be taken in 1st. Distance, Weather, did the pilot give a dame? A simple thing such as rain can or just having the landing gear down could make it easily trackable .

Also isn't the rapier missile a short range missile with a IR seeker head? I think it's likely that they were tracking it by IR and not Radar. They do make them selfs visible to radar to avoid the risk of a mid-air crash. It would be really dumb to lose a B-2 because the ATC know where it was.

S 400 are the best missile interceptor systems.

thatll be javelin or starstreak, rapier is the british equivalant of patriot, except i dont think it can shoot down scuds

You sure? And I thought it could shoot down scuds and cruise missiles. Damn, well there is a black mark, and I'm the one who should be the (somewhat) expert in this field... or at least more so then most civilians should know

No wait, I was right. It is a Short range missile system. (SHORAD) "Short Range Air Defense System". And it uses IR to track targets. But mostly its radar guided. Yea yea, I know wiki. but for small sites like this, it just mostly AD guys like me that edit, or make them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapier_missile
Last edit: Better link then wiki

Here is what I found the B2 thing, and my guess was right. They were using IR to track it. (the system may also use NUV what make it easier to track, as long as it was at a low Atl.) B2 Tracked

Has anyone found a legitimate source citing the sale of these particular missiles? I cannot find one.

The stealths do have an IR signature, it's just incredibly small (i.e. invisible, unless you are very, very close). Similar for the RCS. Anyway I read that cheesey link, and would not exactly call that, 'tracking a B2', at an airshow for crying out loud. More like, 'seeing a signature, at very close range' - which is common knowledge. In a combat application, the idea is to never allow enemy sensory equipment to get within that range (which is pretty small).
