This is a multiple options poll on our relationship with the Iroquois

I recommend to maintain the relations polite in order to stabilize the Grapes of Wrath Steppes and to develop a research/trade partnership with the Iroquois. For security, we should still keep a cavalry Force in Area 52.

Polling relationships and general policy on the 4 civilizations:

This poll is established in order to define the development in the relationship with our neigbors. As the nature of diplomacy is long term, and sometimes irreversible, not only the Foreign Minister is resposible for a long term approach, but also the Japanatican people. Therefore, I will first poll the entire spectrum of the foreign policy options, and then slightly upgrade or downgrade the relations in agreement with the TA, SA and MA, as well as the people. I have charted the entire scope in foreign relations from the Fanatikku Pact/Foreign Aid Client State through Genocide Total War, in order to appease everything from peacemongers to Babylon haters.

This list is probationary, yet should be detailed enough to make finely adjusted Foreign Policy.

Policy Options

Fanatikku Pact (MPP)
Long Term Brother People of Japanatica
Development Aid Client State

Military Partnership
Trade Partnership
Research Partnership

Polite
Cautious
Annoyed

Secure resource locations
Block expansion chokepoints
Intrusion/Cultural Conquest

Partisan War (strike at stray units, capture workers and destroy roads)
Colonial War (Conquer 1 city)
Low Scale War (Conquer 1-3 cities)

Total War, Assimmilation (Japanaticize conquered civilization)
Total War, Forced Labor (make Civ people into workers)
Total War, Genocide, Starve/Raze Cities (Eliminate civ people)

I will only poll the gradual shift in Foreign Policy relations to the four CIVS.

Babylonia : Cautious
Iroquiois : Polite
Rome : Annoyed
Zulu : Polite

I recommend the following policies

upgrade relationship to Babylonia to
Polite, Research Partner

maintain relationship to Iroquois
Polite, may extend to research partner

maintain relationship to Rome, possibly improve,
however, press for an Eastern Special Ops Plan, stop tech trades, no luxury trades, and contain Roman expansion North and East.

maintain relationship with Zulus
Polite, may extend to trade partner, but be careful on tech trades.

This is a multiple poll, one for each CIV

I voted for Research and Trade Partnership, and also voted for both a Polite and Cautious policy toward the Iroquois. My apologies if the latter two were meant to be mutually exclusive, but here's why I voted this way:

The Iroquois have already connected their Horses. While they do not yet possess the Horseback Riding tech, I am sure they will in due time. That is why it is best to maintain cordial(Polite) relations with them, but also be on the lookout for encroachment of Mounted Warriors. And under no circumstances are we to teach them this tech.

Trade, research and polite at least until mighty Samurai come.

Actually, with Babylon settling in the Grapes of Wrath, the Iriquois will not share a common border with us for a while.

I'd say Research Partner, since we would not really be able to carry stuff across lands we could be at war with ;) Or they...

We should keep in mind that the Iroquois with iron and horses have the potential for a strong military. They can already build their UU, which I think is a strong one.

Well, they can once they have the proper tech.

Actually... given that and the fact that we do not chare a common border with them, I'd like to explore the possibility of establishing formal relations with the Iriquois. (Read: Establish an Embassy.) The cost od this is about 44 gold. We have 172. The ability to get an enemy on Rome's back should they wish to play hanky-panky during the Legion age (or have a Dogpile on Babylon) could be of great benefit to us.

Sir Donald 3

I was thinking along the same lines, as in my recent provincial suggestion for the Colonial Provinces (Mitsubishi Diamonds and Wastelands silks, each with iron and horses), we need
to strike from two sides to get a quick war. It is imperative that we slice through the continent West.East, but we should remember we are not getting turnkey provinces in the highlands and in the mountains. Our provincial structure should reflect the conditions and expectations to each Governor- In my proposal, Mitsubishi share many smiliarities, 4-5 luxurues each concentrated, iron, horses, defensible terrain and a lack of production and growth potential, as well as very work intensive land.

In order to realize our Eastern Province, an Iroquois alliance is imperative to quick success. I also liked the way you developed on the Eastern expansion.
I would be honored to nominate you to become a General Governor on the Eastern Province, and have a special role in planning and developing it.

Good job SD3 :)

I don't know if this is such a wise idea. If we were to attack we would need to have a large army which would crush them. And if we had this large army then why ask the Iroquois for aid? They might end up taking one of the cities for themselves.
