Now that I'm thinking about this wrong, and after I don't think civ is just a bowling simulator. After reading your status bar, Red Menace, I realized that the truth has been with us all along, and I can't believe it took me this long to figure it out. Civ VI is a remake of "Where in the World is Carmen San Diego," except this time, it's "Where in the world is Ed Beach".
Think about it. Ed Beach disappears for a month, that wasn't Firaxis trying to lock him up for making a mistake, that was a marketing play, to get us used to the game. In Civ VI, you're trying to find Ed Beach by building an empire capable of searching for him. You can find him in many different ways.
1) You can dominate the world, leaving him no place to hide.
2) You can build a spaceship, and literally follow him to another planet.
3) You can convert the world in to your religion, giving him no choice but to comply with your core beliefs and come forward himself.
4) You can build such a great empire that's so attractive for people, giving him no choice but to vacation in your empire to see your beautiful sights, and spring a trap to catch him!
Now you might say, "But Red, this is ridiculous, you're building a civilization that spans thousands of years, there's no way he can survive that long for you to find him!" Well, in most games, you'd have a valid point, but this game already has a counter to that, immortal leaders of empires! There's already a class of immortals in this game, which is a not so subtle hint that Ed Beach is another one of these. It all fits.
Buy Civ VI, find Ed Beach. Bowling is just one way we can get to him, but it's not the point of the game. Can you build a civilization that will find Ed Beach?
