so that if I am currently researching pottery, I wouldn't get a free pottery tech?

I hate it how if I am two turns away from researching pottery, and then I pop pottery from the ruins.

I keep new random seed just for this reason. But this feels like cheating and I hate it.

(On a side note, not related to modding. How do I change the options in the 'Play Now' screen? Currently, my "Play Now" is set to Babylon/Emperor...But I want to change that to Random/Immortal. so that it is easier to reroll maps)

No, that requires changes to the game logic.

This may be done in LUA, if not it's done in the DLL.
