Is it me, or is it the Scipii?

Good question! where am I?
Well I got back into RTW again after what felt like, and probably was, ages.

After conquoring the Greeks, and using their money to conquor everybody else as the Brutii, I turned my attention to the Scipii....

 it resulted in one of the most frustrating games I've played in a long time

It is just te way I'm playing them, or does the over-reliance on a Navy, War with Carthage, followed by conquest of useless African cities, culminating in them   DAMNED EGYPTIAN CHARIOTS:mad:  make it impossible to get anywhere? And if you do get anywhere, the sheer distance of the cities, causing unrest and corruption, make it impossible to get anywhere else?

In Africa, if you want to lower discontent maybe you should transfer your capital to Carthage... It helped when I was the Brutti and transferred to Byzantium.

As for the Chairiot problem... I'm mainly a Meele Cavalry man however I am considering Missle Cavalry in order to fight Chairiots.

Also, on the subject of Africa I find it better to take the Coastal Cities, let the way back ones revolt and just leave them. Course, thats just me.

exactly what I was going to say! you should transfer capital even if temporarily...

Chariots are easily beaten when lured into a phalanx, or otherwise clogged by infantry. Beat them like you beat elephants: convince them to wander into infantry without charging into the infantry; it's the charge that's deadly. And by no means should you EVER attempt to engage chariots with cavalry.

What I did was this: attack the chariots with cavalry just long enough to get them committed; once they are "hooked" on chasing the cavalry, have them run THROUGH your phalanges so that the chariots follow them into the wall of spearpoints. They'll fall like flies, you just have to make sure you don't let them engage the cavalry in actualy combat for more than a second or two, otherwise they'll just get owned.

Chariots gets wiped out by archer fire. Just make sure the shot is normal and not flaming to keep it more effective. Unless they're scythed chariots. Then give them fire, and watch them run amok in their own lines :D

Yeah, if I recall the Egyptians correctly (and I should, it was pretty traumatic- all those horsemen...) All the chariots, even the lazy ones who just fire arrows, are Iron age Leviathons

Oh, and thanks for the tips everyone- I'll put them into effect next time I play, especially the ones about moving capitals and just letting miserable backward cities revolt- strangely enough those thoughts never occurred to me

You should probably play as the Julii if you hate the Scippii and Brutti. Much easier conquests. Easy killing barbarians. They pretty much only have infantry.

In my opinion, the Julii are the easiest to beat the game as....the brutii and sometimes scipii are the hardest.....

That's the trouble- I'd already beat the game as the Julii and the brutii (several times as the Julii- it had a better, more accurate feel to it)

It was just in the spirit of curiousity I thought i'd try the Scipii

And then in the spirit, well more of a cocktail, of frustration, anger and despair, decided to post here...

yes, the scipii are the hardest to beat the game with (just tried two days ago)

useless african cities? carthaginian colonies tend to become one of the riches and bigger cities in the late game, like greeks, romans, southern spain, egypt and holy land...

True, but playing as the Scipii, they tend to become pretty restless pretty quickly unless you move your capital, and even then, African cities without access to sea lanes can become a little redundant once the fight moves on.

The fantastic trade possibilities offered by the Scipii's Mediterranean empire can win the game for you, but take time to develop and are often hard won. The wolf is indeed the hardest banner to fly, but ultimately, I believe, the most rewarding because of it. The Scipii are my favourite :D

This is true. Get them to take a bait unit, and lure them into your trap. Let the swarm of carnage ensue.

The cities that gross the most cash for me are Aegean coastal cities.

If you declare war on the Greeks as the Scipii, the Senate will give you missions to take their cities instead.

I have a game now as the Scipii and hold Greece, North Africa, Southern Gaul and western Asia Minor. The Egyptians are my allies, Gauls, Pontus, and Numidia are my enemies.
